On the subject of misgendering...using the incorrect pronouns for someone who's pronouns you don't know isn't misgendering. Once someone has told you their pronouns and you then **intentionally** use the incorrect pronouns for them is the issue.
@neon17.08
@neon17.08 Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah absolutely, especially with nonbinary individuals, you can't guess that someone uses they/them. As a nonbinary person with they/them pronouns, its perfectly ok for people to accidentally misgender cause they just don't know, but if I've told them and they know and don't use they/them, its quite saddening. If someone isn't used to it and keeps mucking it up its fine.

Saying "They"/"Them"/"Their"/"Theirs" in a singular fashion has always been a thing... ...People say it all the time when referring to any individual and it's not known what gender that person is and/or the gender of the person could be anything For example, when someone says "the winner will receive $100000 dollars in prize money and a free trip to take whoever *they* want with them", it means that it is not official yet whether the winner will be male/female/etc.

When they say “don’t shove it down our throats” what they actually mean is “don’t do it anywhere where I may happen to come across it. Don’t do it in video games because I could be playing video games. Don’t do it on TV because I could be watching TV. Don’t do it in movies because I might be at the movies. Don’t do it in books because I could be at the library.” Don’t do it in their life of sight & it’s all good 😊 Their criticism of pride is purposefully vanilla so it’s easy for them to flip & change their position on a whim depending on the situation.

As a straight person, we don't need a flag. We don't need corporations bending over backwards to cater to us once a month. We don't need representation in entertainment. We don't need to remind anyone that we exist and that we are human beings. We just don't because there's nobody trying to erase us as we speak and I want there to be a point where LGBT people don't need any of that either. When someone says "you never be a real woman" (or man in the case of ftm, or nb, etc.) Imagine someone going to an adopted child, and telling them "you never be their real child". In both situations, it's biologically true (or partially biologically true in the case of trans folk), but it completely ignores the social and emotional part of the thing, not to mention that it's just rude and generally asshole behavior.

Oh bro, I just wanna say, that this is hate bait and , I’m sorry for what I’m about to say, but if you adopt an old enough child or a child that doesn’t have the same skin color as you, they probably know that they aren’t their actual child. But if you adopt a child that is very young and looks like you then they probably would think that they are your actual child and that is just not true. It’s the same with trans people but it’s twisted a bit. See, some trans people know that they can never have the same experiences as the gender that they are trying to pass as and have accepted to try their best and be the gender they are, and on the other side some trans people actually think that they are the gender they are, even tho they aren’t the gender they want to be, but they keep acting like they are because no one’s afraid to say otherwise or else they’ll be shunned off the internet. Those kinds of trans people are delusional and they need a reality check. And I suggest not only to you but everyone else to leave the echo chambers that they’re in. They are so much bigger than you realize.

I love Samantha and what she preached, I will say as a transman who works at Target and had to pass off threatening, transphobic, homophobic, vulgar calls to my boss multiple times a day for days because of pride, I will not risk my life for a paycheck and a pride shirt. My life, especially as a transman, is more valuable to me than any form of merch or pride-related clothing/products. I am sad that Target did not stand with the LGBT, if all brands had banded together they could have made a difference, I am sure. I am not saying Target isn't also capitalist and did not just want profit from Pride and backed out when things got heated because I am sure to a large degree that is the truth, but I feel like when people who do not work at these retail stores say "Lol just keep it up it's fine." You don't hear the voices of all the queer people who have to go into work knowing there are violent calls coming in and high risks in the middle of the age of mass-shooting and hate crimes.

@@OldSchoolTyler I don’t want to speak for the original commenter, but I think one thing to mention is that non-binary doesn’t necessarily mean having no gender. It just means that a person doesn’t fit into the binary expectation of man or woman. But could sit somewhere between, or even oscillate and vary. I really don’t want to speak for this person but if for example a non binary person is only attracted to men it could feel inaccurate to use labels such as bisexual or pan sexual because they aren’t attracted to women. But it could also be inaccurate to use labels like gay or straight too. So ultimately it is is up to the individual to decide what bests fits their own identity and what feels closest. Not all definitions and labels are going to be perfect for everyone, but I personally love that this commenter has found a label that most resonates with them and helps them to describe their own identity! - I sometimes struggle with tone when writing, so I really hope this has come across as genuinely trying to inform and in no way critical to anyone! ❤

@@RAIDER-D14 No, I mean like similar to roe vs wade, gay marriage is not set in stone and can be over turned at any time so that's terrifying. It is legal for police to profile lgbt people, lgbt refugees seeking asylum from countries with a death penalty for being lgbt will be sent back to their country, conversion therapy is still legal. Then for trans people it is legal for them to be evicted for just being trans, refused service at a place of business for just being trans, and not only can a doctor refuse to treat a trans patient but entire hospitals can. There is no trans anti-discrimination laws in health insurance. And every month over a hundred anti-trans bills are introduce and at minimum a couple pass per month. Trans people are born they way they are and yet in several states it is now illegal to simply be trans and under 18, imagine if it was illegal to be under 18 and black.

Hey, former extremist conservative christian here who is working on deconstructing 30 years of living that way. Thought I'd share a fun anecdote from my life. As a straight white cis male, I used to spout some of this same rhetoric. While I'm very ashamed of saying that, i still think it's important to hold myself accountable. Anyways, I used to say things like "when is it white history month?" and "when is it straight pride month?" and "as a white male, I actually have less rights than anyone because I'm always being attacked." I know, i know, I was a shit person. But it wasn't long ago that I realized some things, specifically related to "white history month" or "straight pride month"; while black people have a whole February or Pride last the entire month of June, white history month lasts basically all 11 other months like how straight pride month lasts all 11 other months too. I hope my sarcasm towards the length of black history month and Pride are apparent lol, it's obviously way too short. I am just glad i can finally acknowledge how shitty it was of me to honestly believe that the most underprivileged and most oppressed people in our society didnt deserve the little time they've been given to feel celebrated. And it's just as strange to believe that those months are any kind of respite from the hate so many people spew. Im sorry for rambling, I just don't have many people I can safely talk to about how my beliefs are changing, so I tend to ramble any time i get the chance to lol. Btw, loved yall's video! Keep up the great work!!

@BalletBullet1 People misusing mental health terms like "trigger" is actually extremely dangerous to the people it actually applies to because nobody takes them seriously anymore. Can't even tell you how many folks I've seen use the word "narcissist" out of context, just to mean someone was toxic. It's literally a trauma induced personality disorder. Or, people joking about being bipolar and the people saying "everyone is a little bit Autistic." Those all actively hurt the actual communities. It dehumanises them and desensitises everyone else to their struggles.

Most people don't understand this is what they're mocking and in turn, people are being hurt, silenced, and trafficking continues rising. If you don't wanna believe me there are a number of papers and books on the matter. I think it was pretty clear what I was talking about, personally. @@GasMaus nonbinary is an umbrella term for any gender identity that falls outside the traditional man-woman binary. Some nonbinary people feel their gender is somewhere in between the two (I think this is usually called third gender, but I must admit that I too am not equally familiar with every gender under the nonbinary umbrella, so if others have anything to say, add or correct, please do!). Others feel they have multiple genders (bi+gender), or they feel their gender is constantly moving across the spectrum (genderfluid), or that another factor in their lives has had a significant impact on their gender identity (autigender for Autistic people, for example). There are no doubt many more nonbinary gender identities that I have forgotten to mention or don’t know about, my apologies for that. But you get the general idea, right? So likewise, there are agender people like me, who feel they lack a sense of gender altogether. I feel uncomfortable when people call me a woman, but I would feel equally uncomfortable if they were to call me any other gender. I would ultimately want to be seen as a human being rather than a woman or a man or whatever other gender identity there is. Hope this explanation helps!

Although it's called a lesbian munch, it is for all women who love women, so bisexual and pansexual women are welcome too. As a trans woman myself I know that people can be put off by the term lesbian, assuming the event will be trans exclusionary. So I make it clear that trans women and non-binary folk are welcome too. I personally think if there's woman somewhere in your identity (some non-binary people are partly woman or sometimes women) and you're attracted to women, then you are welcome at a lesbian event. Inclusivity is always better than exclusivity in my opinion.
