Played PoE on both my PS and PC. The playerbase being fractured and not having crossplay is definitely a major issue, especially the softcore trade economy. Its a nightmare on console. PoE2 havinf crossplay will definitely be a huge positive sometimes I'd much rather be playing on 77" screen on the couch vs my desk on a tiny monitor

True and real. SC trade on console is literally forced SSF with light trading with jacked up rigged pricing on items, and some items are just straight up unavailable compared to PC

It's not necessarily that a controller "feels bad," quite the contrary. Controller feels fantastic, the issue is precision skills. When you teleport on mkb you go exactly where the pointer is, when you teleport on controller you end up in a random spot based on where you're looking. Has anyone used leap in d4 on controller for example? Most of the time you end up leaping over all the enemies and landing on the other side of the screen lol. I wish there was an elegant solution.

tactile pad on a DS4/5 controller provided the solution years ago imo. mouse and gamepad is imo the superior solution.

as a player using controller on both poe and d4. i can attest this is accurate lol.. the auto targetting is F up if a skill is ground target by nature.

@@YakultLitro one way I've seen it done is stick as a proportional input with trigger to cast. Hold button and move the target with the right stick works too. Though that still limits you to triggers and maybe dpad to cast.

I was very skeptical about playing an ARPG with a controller as someone that grew up playing Diablo 1 and 2. My wife wanted to play Diablo 3 with me so we bought it on Playstation. I was hooked immediately. I couldn't believe how much better the experience was. After that day I play every one of them with a controller if possible.

tbh for wasd, I suggest you try it at the start for at least a couple hours, in the games I've played that have that, it feels way better, because you can easily walk in a direction and shoot at the enemies following you without looking like you're ironing your mousepad. especially in poe2 which seems like it will have a higher time to kill (but more mobility, so total travel time will be similar if you kite.)

I have tried WASD in a couple of top down games, recently i tried it in D4 and No Rest For The Wicked. WASD in those games felt garbage to me, however POE 2's WASD is a bit different from those two games. Poe 2 you use WASD for movement but the character also follows the mouse cursor, that sounds a lot better to me. Think you will feel a lot more connected to the character. Also moving while using skills in poe 2 is also possible with the old point and click but im guessing it will take some time to get used to for people

Oh that's the other thing about updates on POE a lot of the patches are server side so there's not much updating to be done on the client itself.

I have a beefy PC I built for productivity, but most of my friends play console and as such, so do I. Nice to see someone saying the right things. It's not that big of a deal. If you're not a PC Stan in the same way console superfans swear "my console is far superior guys!!!1¡", really the differences on cross-platform games are marginal unless you mod the ever-loving f*** out of them anyway. The only complaint that might hold water is "lower graphical ceiling" but even then aside from "but muh frame rate" (marginally smoother gameplay) it's sort of void. I doubt they'll cap FPS/various PC exclusive settings unless they plan to lean more into PVP in game.

One thing when it comes to poe patches is that almost everything in poe is server side, there is very little that is client side. The client gets patched on league launch and hotfixes are usually server side. Jonathan briefly mentioned that in an interview in the past few months (Don't remember which one). That is the reason why people can't datamine poe, cause there is no gamecode in the client. Poe is made on PC by the pc team, when the pc team has made new skills etc they hand them over to the console team so they can make that skill work with a controller. Skills usually works a bit different with a controller then they do with mouse and keyboard in poe. Im guessing it will be the same in poe 2 as well. The only difference is that you can now manually aim a skill with a controller in poe 2 if you want. So when it comes to skills i don't think crossplay is going to change anything at all.

Console players need not worry as long as they have the higher tier consoles that GGG said will be required to play PoE2 in addition to that a lot of the quality of life changes will be included on console and with the introduction of full-on ASDF movement support console players are going to get a massive quality of life improvement along with couch co-op and PC players need not worry about the PC version getting dumbed down because the awesomeness that is the PC version of path of exile will be made to work just as well on those upper tier consoles for POE2. The only issues that might occur since there's cross plav all that is some updates might take longer on console but that doesn't mean that they're going to dumb down the game for PC. It's just going to be more eyes on the prize which is going to make grinding gear games a lot more money so they'll be able to hire even more staff to complete the leagues which is good because they're going to be making different leagues for both the first game and the new game at the same time.

i wanted to play poe on my ps5 but i'd have to get the microtransactions again. I think it'd also be tough to trade as Ps5 doesn't have web browser support. Lastly, 90% of trade in PoE is mostly functional because of bots- regular players are either offline or busy- i doubt the console version would have bots supporting it. I'm hoping for more crossplay so all of that is not an issue in PoE2

They have confirmed instant trading in poe2 (like an auction house) that should help out with some of the bot issues, but like all arpgs, bots are part of it regardless of the efforts made to prevent them.

i'm pretty sure they said they're actually changing the title from beta to early access since it's going to be a year long and will market better. they're been outstanding so far so i have faith until they give me a reason not to. this way we also don't have to worry about any pre-order play a week early FOMO bullshit either.

Jonathan still calls it beta, but the marketing team calls it early access. But it is a 6 month beta minimum in every sense of the word. Not every class might be there at launch of the beta, they will be added during the beta, the same with a lot of other content that needs to be tested and balanced. They will do wipes if they do major balance changes to the campaign etc

Hey Hawg, thanks for the content. I personally enjoy cross play with modern ARPGs. I'm a computer guy, but the missus prefers console, while sitting on the couch 10 feet from a 60 inch screen. At least with cross play, we can couch co-op and I can continue my progression on my computer when we've finished playing together. I think this is just a natural evolution of gaming, in order to recoup as much of the investment as possible for the developers. Diablo 4 did it bad though, have to buy it each time to have cross progression, and for each account. Sucked because I ended up buying that turd of a game 3 times so we could play the story once and uninstall. Yup, I'm still bitter.

Yeah that's the cool thing The developers are very similar to old school blizzard before they were called blizzard these guys are all hardcore gamers so they're making this game from a standpoint of wanting a good game That's why POE is so good they don't have to worry about a board of directors saying oh no you have to do it this way you can't do it the way you want to do it. The ball stops at Mark and Jonathan if they want something in the game it's going to be in the game they are not like your typical studio The operate much more like a independent studio so we're in very good hands.

Also GGG being co-owned by Tencent ONLY means that they have the right to say how the foreign versions of path of exile are set up but they have no control at all over the US version. This has been a thing for years. Tencent Saw a game that was beloved and said Hey we should put some money into this company so we can get the rights to make a version for us and if we monetize it the way we do it it will probably make us a fortune so that's what they did. Did that change the native English version of POE 1 and 2 no not at all Chris has said many times they have say on their version and part of the deal was they have complete control over our version hands down. The only reason they're putting in features that would be associated with bringing the game to a wider audience is because these are features that should be in games like this that some companies keep taking out of games like this. And and it's not like it will not have mouse and keyboard support anymore they're just adding more options so that you can pick the one you like the best. So it's going to be great I see absolutely zero negatives about anything they're doing.

Yes, "let them cook" is a solid take. And, yes, the whole GGG team are clearly tightly knit. Corporations love to talk about themselves as being like family, but you can tell when it's actually true. With the GGG crew, it's clearly true. I am so hyped for PoE2. For what it's worth, these were my own thoughts on the "discourse." 1. I've seen no sign that being owned by Tencent has changed who GGG are in any fundamental way beyond increasing the scale of their ambitions, and it wasn't that long ago that GGG put passive trees on equippable items. Anyone who's worried about GGG "dumbing down" PoE2 for consoles, or for anything else, has not been paying attention. You either love what they're doing, or you don't, but what they're doing has not changed. They were already doing this, they just hadn't told us yet. 2. Yes, PoE2 is going to be a completely different game than PoE1. That's the entire point of the thing; it's why it's a separate game, and not just a really big expansion. Adding cross-play, and cross-progression has not changed any of GGG's plans for the game itself, which is still being designed on PCs, for PCs. The only change is that they also have a dedicated console team, who are tasked with making all the madness work with a gamepad. 3. Yes, PoE2 being cross-platform is going to make patching the game harder, and slower. That will also incentivize GGG to ensure that expansions are properly tested and bug-free before launch. It will also allow the PC recommended hardware specs to be pretty reasonable, since they only have to match the XBox Series S. I call that a draw at worst, and maybe a qualified win. 4. If being on PS5 brings players to the game who wouldn't otherwise have tried it, then that's a clear win. It will definitely ensure that PoE2 gets more attention from the gaming media, which can only help GGG's cause. Finally, am I losing it, or is their console lead the same guy who served as their sacrificial mobile game developer for ExileCon 1?

Every computer game that people complain about being too heavy to run on their machine usually requires too much power from their GPU, or it’s optimized poorly. Every PC port to console has to have graphics dulled down so the little graphics chip in your Xbox/PS can handle the game at 30/60 fps. If you can run PoE now, you can run PoE2 Don’t worry about it

Almost always poor optimization that's made up by newer tech. For instance PoE, Pubg, Destiny2, and CS2 all ran really badly on my last machine. My CPU and RAM usage was 100% causing lag, pauses, and even crashes. Once I got a new CPU and more RAM suddenly those games are smooth. They all ran great at launch on my old PC but after years of updates started causing issues.

I don't really care about the console stuff. Personally KB&M will always be easier for me. I'm an old school MMO player so my hands are conditioned for keybind button mashing. That and I have an amazing PC setup for a reason. I bought a PS4 solely to play Bloodborne. I have an Xbox Series S I've never played (my son plays it). Consoles aren't for me and I know that. I'm 100% liking bringing everyone together. The bigger the economy the better.

Ive been a pc gamer all my life (mid 30’s), bought a ps5 to play d4 couch coop with gf (too bad the game ended up being a massive dumpster fire). Anyways point being I tried out Poe on console and was massively impressed. Played sanctum and crucible on console and really enjoyed it, being able to chill out and lay back on the sofa is night and day compared to stressing out on a pc. Yea it’s not perfect, some things are just less fun on console (upgrading blight towers was super annoying for instance) but it makes up for it by giving you an alternate fun playstyle. Only reason I came back to pc was the trade economy, man it’s rough over there. It’s like you’re forced into a half baked ssf version. Everything is double or triple the price. But hey they got an instant buyout option, no waiting required 😉🤣.

I've tried poe twice now and it's way too complicated for me. I'd love to try it but in its current state I wouldn't be willing to invest years into just learning how to play a video game. I'm sure poe is better than D3 (a better comparison than d4 as poe has 10 years of content and updates). I'll never get to find out because of the huge barrier to entry.

The reason cross-play is perceived badly by many PC players isn't because they want the game all to themselves, its because devs have a habit of inserting all their moralizing garbage about fairness into the conversation. The net result of which is, we get stuck with a dumpster UI and gimped FoV, but the game still isn't fair for console players because real fairness between a $5k PC and a $400 console is impossible. Truly bizarre thing is, no one seems to think this fairness mandate exists when you add mobile games w/ cross-play into the mix. So how about let's just abandon the idea entirely, give each platform a build that makes sense on that platform, and tell the fairness whiners to STFU.

If I remember correctly they said very early they wanted crossplay with console and pc. At that time I felt like yeah right like that is going to happen but if it works it will be good for the community. I am happy that they got it in as I knew some people that play on console and always having trouble to get builds going cause it is a lot harder to trade and the game felt more like a sff for them. Curious how it will change the market and for them to play the game as for them a whole big group is added to trade with. That said you said all mtx are moving over is something I recall not going to happen. Stashtabs yes but some skins arent made to work with poe2 and wont be ported to it. I am happy that we dont need to use the wiki as much as there is a lot more information going to be in the game. The only thing I am so far worried about is what is the endgame, what is there after the acts. As it is a seperate game will they still go back to mapping or are they going to make something fully new now that they have the chance to do something new? There is a lot to be happy about that are different from poe1 aswell no more worry about 6 socketed and linking items for skill gems with their support, easier switching between skill setups. New classes, ascendacies and skills to play with. And important factor is also that the seasons of poe1 and 2 arent at the same time, so 1 can play both seasons and still have a month of another game or something like that. Time will tell how the changes will feel and if they are good or bad. But dont forget we still have poe1 it isnt going away for now.

Let me be honest. PoE2 won't be fantastic at launch. No live service game launches in a complete state. PoE1 wasn't great at launch from what I heard, but it recovered and became great. Don't set the bar so high that nothing can meet your expectations.

LOL, have any of you sold 9,000,000 of anything? Nah, I didn't think so. D4 has some failures but isn't a failure. Also, PoE 2 isn't going to kill D4 in any way. There is room for both, and both will continue perfectly fine. I will try PoE 2 and most likely love it. I'll also try most, if not all, of the D4 new content and will most likely enjoy most of it. Play what you want. Don't worry about who did what or didn't. Life is too short for you to be angry over a F'n video game.

I think catering to console really hurts games. It limits a lot about a game in terms of performance, size, frequency of updates to the game, difficulty of mechanics and systems, controls and movement, etc... I hope GGG figures it out since they've never done it before but I'm skeptical that this will result in a superior product. Hopefully I'm wrong

I am a console player, I have been playing games since 1984 and played on just about every platform. I have a gaming Desktop, I have a gaming laptop, I have a PS5, and an Xbox Series X. I play on PS5 99% of the time. I get on my laptop when beta testing some of the upcoming games because they won't be on console.

I’d never hate on someone for playing on console. I’ve owned consoles and PCs over the years(I’m old). I prefer PC because I’ve done the majority of my gaming on PC. I’m used tot he controls and the flexibility, but there are some things about console that are positives for sure, and this includes the price to performance ratio. Everything just works and you can just game without worrying about all the little upgrades that could improve the performance etc.

Trying to spin that PoE 2 will be fine when it's dumbed down because it is going to have to cater to consoles is laughable. PC gamers don't want watered down console ports and that's what this is going to end up being. This entire concept killed my hype for PoE 2. They sold out, and the game will suffer. It's impossible not to when you go from a PC game to a console game.

@@shayaharonson9634 PoE mad the console players deal with PoE. PoE 2 is making the game fix console, that's a big difference. They can say what they want, but the game is going to launch on console and going to work well on console. Once you decide to go down that road you limit what PC can do. Console will always be inferior to PC, it's just what it is.

The realms are separated, on poe 2 everyone will be together, that's why cross-progression was a thing in the announcement.

While I agree with your argument, I’ve been saying the same to everyone, just fyi cross platform isn’t in Poe 1. Cross platform means you can play together with other devices types, pc and console in group play. While cross progression means you can play the same account on both platforms. But yea while Poe 1 does support both console and pc just not cross platform.
