Actually it's the other way around with the nes top loader. Nintendo recalled the top loader shortly after release due to a hardware problem but next to nobody actually sent theirs back, so most top loaders are actually more prone to hardware failure

All my love goes to the 2ds, my mom wouldnt let me get a 3ds when it came out because i get migraines but i wanted animal crossing new leaf. So when the 2ds came out, it was a god send. I was so excited i broke out the piggy bank and got the console with my own money then my parents got a few games for me, which made the lower price a plus too :)

I had a PS3 slim, I got it when the PS4 was coming out, I had been using my PS2 for years, our family weren't well off so when I got that PS3 for Christmas it was like... Christmas. I don't think I'd consider a licensed system a revision. It's like saying the JVC X'Eye is a revised Sega CDX. Sure they play the same games, but while one is meant as a game console, the other is moreso meant as a multimedia machine that just happens to play video games. The Panasonic Q is a game console, but it's really not a revised Gamecube. More an offspring or hybrid if anything else

The Game Boy Micro is also a hardy system. My Famicom styled one was stepped on and thrown against a wall. No damage aside from a small bit of red paint from the back side of it, but it also had another layer of red under it, so it still looks fine. Love pulling it out randomly and people just look so confused on what I was playing.

The original ps3 was super confusing. Only certain hard drive sizes were backwards compatible with ps2 games. And even more complicated, one of those hard drive sizes (I think 40 or 80gb?) was only compatible if it had a certain number of USB ports on the front.

Only the 20 and 60gb units were actually backwards compatible. But the 20gb unit only had Ethernet with no wifi and the 60gb until had a version with 2 USB ports instead of 4 that wasn't backwards compatible at all. And there was also an 80 bg until that was kind of backwards compatible but the ps2 compatibly barely worked and was later removed. And then there's another 80gb unit with 2 less USB ports than the first one that could never play ps2 games. Yeah it's a fucking mess

I gave the 80gb to my nephew and I have the 60gb who just inherited the ps4s original 1tb hd. Upgraded my ps4pro to 2tbs. It is fucking full already. Sony please for the ps5, if still using discs, actually use them and don't do mandatory installs. //end of rant

Personally I VERY much prefer the "new" 2DS XL out of every single version of the 3DS/2DS family. The bread slice 2ds never felt comfy to me, but my kids love it. I had a new 3ds xl (actually 2 at one point because I thought having one that I liked the color scheme of more would finally totally make it click for me) and the weight always really made my hands hurt after just 20 min or so. I also only ever used the 3d long enough to see how it looked in a particular game but never more than that. The new 2ds xl has just extremely light compared to the others, had a matte finish that seems to hide fingerprints forever and never show scuffs/scratches. I still used mine up until getting a switch lite, and occasionally still bust it out to play some Mario 3D land or something. Anywho thanks for coming to my Ted Talk on "why Scott was wrong to dismiss the new 2DS XL" 🤪

I also went with the 2DS XL, wasn't interested in the non-foldable 2ds and due to an eye condition the 3d feature didn't work on me anyway, so the extra cost didn't really make sense. The New 2DS XL speaker placement actually makes sense, they’re near your palms because when holding the system your palms will actually cup the sound coming from the speaker and make the sound both louder and more directed at yourself. I’ve had the Poké ball New 2DS XL since it releases and I’ve really loved it. It also feels way less top heavy than the New 3DS XL I have, which makes it more comfortable for long playing sessions. The regular New 3DS is probably still the best model overall though.

My first OG PS2 from 2002 stopped reading anything after a few years. Got a slim by 06 that somehow lasted a longer time until the disc lid/latch started having issues a few years back. If I don't leave some kind of paper weight on a specific area of the lid, it likely won't read the disc inside (but otherwise luckily works). Have since gone back to an OG, while paper weight slim gets back up duty.

The N64 and GameCube failed because they were chocked full of mistakes. The Wii U failed because everyone automatically assumed it was a portable because the gamepad had a screen, and a handful of people thought it was a Wii addon (aka, they couldn't do a Google search)
