This console table build was made with 8/4 (1.5") think white oak. I tried 6 different rubio monocoat finishes and eventually decided on "Aqua"

That's called a centipede by Bora. A few people have asked me about it. It's very convenient. You can get it in a few different sizes but here is an affiliate link to the one you see in the video. amzn.to/3QqmIlI Here is a link to the tops that I have. The dog holes really come in handy for sanding and clamping but you can just put a piece of plywood on top and drill your own dog holes if you wanted. amzn.to/3qdsY5A

Note: I have the bora setup. It is fantastic. It's very portable (pack in car) and comes in several configurations. I'm 5'10" and recommend the 36" height version. It's perfect for me. As far as the foldout table is concerned, I initially bought the standard 3/4" hole version. As I purchased more TSO and Festool items (bench dogs and clamps), it became necessary to purchase the metric 20mm hole version.

Hello. It's called a centipede by Bora. It can be very useful. The make them in a few different sizes. For the top, you can just use plywood but in the video I'm using a foldable top with dog holes that's also made by Bora. And your English is great!

What did you use for the drawer boxes? Did you just have lengths of you had already cut a dado in or did you purchase it like that? Seems like a great time-saver.
@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wz
@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wz 10 ай бұрын
One of the local wood spots here has pre-made drawer sides. They come prefinished with dados. Save a ton of time. They sell them in various widths. Ths ones in the video are 4". I think it cost about $15 for an 8' length
@joeyclutch2675
@joeyclutch2675 Жыл бұрын
Enjoyed the video and great build! unfortunately you allowed no room for wood expansion/ contraction by driving in pocket holes along the entire width which will result in cracking when the season changes!
@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wz
@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wz Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. What would you have done differently? Should I have avoided plywood and used glue instead of pocket holes?
@k1sfd1974
@k1sfd1974 Жыл бұрын
The wood will expand front to back (not left to right), so the back is fine, but the angle aluminum you used and the drawer dividers could be an issue. For the aluminum, just leave oblong slots ( say 4mm off center both ways or 1/8”) and it’ll be fine there. For the drawer dividers, I would have used a sliding dovetail. Now the real issue is; since this is an indoor piece, will it really change that much over the seasons? That depends on the climate you like to keep in your home and the general climate of the area in which you live. If you run a central AC during the summer and live in a non-humid area, it’s probably not that big of a deal. Jonathan Katz-Moses did a great YT video on wood expansion; I highly recommend it.
@jasonj6568
@jasonj6568 Жыл бұрын
@@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wzI wouldn’t sweat it too much. It’s indoors, you have miter folds. Those miter folds if they move it will show there. So shoring it up might help actually in that sense. Properly acclimated planks won’t have as much tension, hence movement, as a slab. Part of a reason you would cut a slab that seems to want to never stay flat. Maybe having a hole oversized will allow just enough. I didn’t see glue on the dividers and just pocket holes. Worst case is you could loosen then if you see a move,ent condition, but again, the miter folds I would protect more over a drawer looking a small bit off. The other commenter is correct on the movement direction. However YT tends to get people panicking over any perceived missed step that any creator has done previously. More important this is your piece and looks awesome and I am glad the algorithm landed me here!

The conventional wisdom is that the glue line is stronger than the wood itself, so why waste the dominoes? If it's just for alignment than cheap biscuits will do.
@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wz
@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wz Жыл бұрын
In my experience the biscuits have a lot more slop in them. So for the panels, it would result in more sanding. It's a very heavy piece so I was less confident in the strength of the mitered corners, so I felt better about Dominos in that area. I also just like the ease and accuracy of the domino. I know it's a polarizing tool but I really like it. You can almost dry fit an entire project just held together with dominos, which is a big plus in my opinion.

not to start a stink (well yes I am) but if you tried to deconstruct this and try to fix (impossible) old dovetails and tongue and groove and many (real carpentry joints) can be taken apart and fixed / this can not
@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wz
@WhiteKnuckleWoodworking-wh6wz Жыл бұрын
Good thing I have no plans on taking it apart. "Real carpentry" joints are great and I have respect for people that use them, but that's not practical for my purposes and not the point of this video. Perhaps a future video when I live off the grid with no electricity. A long time from now when I've retired from my day job and need to fill my days, distracting me from the ticking clock of the inevitable.
