And pretty neat. You could save the best weapon for the last. Very useful for the "Level Ate" and "See Jim Run" stage. And goodbye for Bubblegun tragedy. This switch weapon feature also available on PS1 and PC Windows.

@@chandramartika2779 It doesn't matter. I played both game just now. With The Super Nintendo I died at the bomb level. Controls are really terrible & because of the Crop screen you don't know where the bomb is. On The Sega Genesis I passed that level so easily & didn't even die at that level. This is me playing both games on easy. Before this I haven't played both games in a long time.

There's a hack that lets you switch weapons on MD and the high res helps in some cases so it still wins for me. Saturn version is also good.

@@ConsoleWars You did something better than what AVGN did 3 years later: why only playing EWJ2 on the Genesis is not the best choice. At least with EWJ1, it's more of an option on whether you like small visual touches and a few pleasant sounding musical tracks on Super Nintendo, or more emphasis on gameplay and a rocking soundtrack on the SEGA Genesis; EWJ2 is no excuse, you NEED to play it on Super Nintendo; even Nintendo Switch Online stuck with the Super Nintendo EWJ2 as the superior version. I think this just goes to show that, while Nintendo is very ancient, they are good in adapting with the times.

On that level on Genesis maybe I drop 2 total in the 3 rounds. Other times I do it perfectly on Genesis. On Snes I am dropping them every round where the dog comes & beats me up.

Oh boy, Earthworm Jim 2 is a easy win for SNES. It's amazing how the developers improved their knowledge about the SNES after the first game. Having that much sound effects on the fly it's reeealy hard to do and needed some DMA tricks. Older emulators usualy doesn't work with them properly, sounding just glitchy. Also, every level made good use of color effects and the special layer 3 that most games uses for status bar, but this game uses for an extra background. 6:20 This level uses layer 1 for the static foreground and layer 2 for the moving foreground. SNES's extra layer provided the background shown. They could do the forks with sprites for genesis, but there are way too many on screen. 4:49 This cropping is there because the level uses "collumn scrolling" or "offset per tiles", function that can move 16x16 pixels collumns... but not the first one, so they hide it. It was used for the shaking effect when you get near the walls. Except for these puppy levels, it's a way better game than the first. Really good! But the best visual effect has to be... Earthworm Jim himself in this vídeo. It's was hard to figure out how you guys made this. XD

Um, NO. Just NO. Shiny/Now Double Helix Games has said that the Genesis version (aka the original) is the better version of the game, since it was DESIGNED for the Genesis. Anyone who thinks the SNES version is better is completely WRONG. Hence why the Genesis version was released on the Virtual Console instead of the SNES versions. So when the company that made the game says the Genesis version is better, well I take their word over Nintendo fanboys words.

@@lennynero635 Yeah, SNES higher color palette are the reason. Genesis has 4 palettes of 16 colors each that are shared for foreground, background and sprites. SNES works differently between his background modes. The most common mode is Mode 1, used in like 99% of the games. In this mode, SNES has 8 palettes of 16 colors for foreground/backgrounds and more 8 palettes of 16 colors for sprites. So, doing the math, 64 colors for Genesis and 256 colors for SNES. You can achieve even more by using color effects like transparency and shadowing. You're welcome :D

Many of the songs drop the original bad ass FM synth style for something more "realistic" which doesn't translate well to Genesis. I would bet that Tommy Tallarico wanted to experiment with newer, sample based hardware (although the snes was incredibly limited compared to dedicated sample based synths of the time) Nothing wrong with that. And your also making assumptions that the the Virtual Console version was picked because its a better game when nobody ever official claimed that. Also, regardless if you think the game was "designed for the Genesis", they clearly enhanced a lot of aspects in the SNES version. Just use your eyes. And last but not least, stop being a hypocritical Sega fanboy who gets triggered when a KZbin video suggests a SNES game is better than the Genesis version. Its 2019 dude, don't have a fucking cow.

Another plus for the Genesis version; is that the actual character sprites have slightly more fluid animation and cartoon shading than the SNES version; but overall these two are very close.

I love the fact that both systems developed games based on their strengths. (Contra Hard Corps vs Contra 3) But, when both systems released the exact title you saw these developers get creative! I was shocked when the Genesis won the console war for Ultimate MK 3! SNES still got the best versions of 2 and original 3 though.

@@DarkReturns1 using an emulator to play earthworm Jim 2 is as simple as opening a file in word. It really is as easy as can be. Snes and mega drive emulatioj is perfect these days and the android emulators work perfectly so you can get a Bluetooth controller and play on your phone or tablet if you want. Or pc emulation is perfect too. You can even get devices that let you use original controllers Plus there's the SNES mini/classic and the mega drive mini too which you can put on the Roms of these games and play them that way on a big TV Hey I bought the castlevania and contra collections on switch too. But those are still emulation. And if the games aren't ported to modern systems and steam, like the earthworm Jim games aren't, then you're a sucked if you pay $200 for an original cartridge instead of just playing it in one of the dozens of possible ways. If they aren't available for purchase, the moral question around emulation falls apart. Because then if you pay hundreds for an original cartridge, that money isn't going to the game devs anyway, it's going to ebay sellers or whatever. I emulate games until they are made available again for purchase and then I buy them. Like the lion King and alladin collection that came out recently. I bought the mega drive collection on steam AND on switch, but hey the switch one doesn't have sonic 3&knuckles so for on the go I have a GPD XD to emulate that game and others (it's like an android device in a 3DS shell with all the modern buttons that are on gamepads these days)

Also in a super nintendo version you can do a guard move. Up and y/x and there. And you can switch between weapons with y button or with the soulder buttons. And super nintendo has a debug menu cheat and weapons cheat codes. You have to put them in a pause menu.

The Gameplay for the Snes version is trash compared to the Sega Genesis. I played both versions today. I couldn't beat the Snes version. I died on the Snes Version bomb level. It's super hard for whatever reason. Genesis version I beat that easily only dying a couple of times. I played them both on easy.

The raising and lowering fork bit has no background because of a hardware limitation, not really laziness. You only ever get 2 layers on Genesis, but the SNES can sacrifice some colors (and resolution IIRC?) to get 3.
