Man, the CD version looks much better! I'm a HUGE Spidey fan, so when this came out for the Genesis I loved it! I hadn't played it in years though, and when I popped it in not too long ago I thought it was absolute garbage! I'm gonna hafta review it one of these days. Great comparison, man!

Great job on this. I’ve played both quite extensively and feel the Genesis release is the better version, but just by a hair. It really comes down to things that are of personal preference though and it’s without a doubt a game where people who like one really should own both. BYW I’ve owned a couple copies of this game for CD as it seems fairly common for it to have disc rot issues.

Jenovi. I agree. I bought the CD version in 1993 and at the time I thought it was an original game for the Sega CD never for the genesis. Regardless of the CD having better music, gameplay or cut scenes, the genesis version came first...always!

This was great! I've played a lot of the one on the Genesis but only spent a short time with the CD version and I remember it feeling like a big upgrade in comparison when it came to the soundtrack, animation, and cutscenes. Before this video I never realized that the game shared voice actors from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, don't know how I missed that especially with Wilson Fisk sounding so much like Master Splinter.

I had both and loved both but I was disappointed that the Sega CD version was a lot of the Genesis game simply rehashed. Beating Venom with the bells was a nice touch in the CD version. I did want the arcade Spider-man game ported to a home system. I remember when the Sega CD version was first mentioned in gaming magazines they showed pictures of the arcade version. To this day I don't believe there's been a home port of the Spider-man arcade game.

There some features that I prefer in the genesis version: the main-them (music), the web-swing moment, the web shield, the ability to take pictures and sell them to the Daily Bugle to make money and buy web fluid and the ability to go to Parker's house to take a rest.

Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson look _a lot_ like they would one year later in the Spider-Man cartoon from 1994. I don't remember them looking like that in the comics, so I have to wonder if the animator in this game would go on to work on Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

These series are cool, like that it doesn't take 20 minutes for one comparison. Now only need more types of comparisons between other consoles.

Taking pictures to get web fluid and resting to get life with the timer of the bomb on the screen was actually a great inclusion. It's a shame they cut it on the Sega CD.

This is awesome. It's so rare to hear about Sega CD games that were worth buying. Much like that Sega saturn, this needed a ram cart to help with loading issues and to load bigger level. Keep up the great work.

You need good quality disks for Sega CD/Mega CD as its old-ish CD technology and is known to corrupt some times.. I have also noticed that the issue also can be dirty pins on the Sega CD to Genesis connection, or not aligned (plugged in correct) can make games freeze and crash.. I own the Mk 1 Mega Drive and Mk 1 Mega CD.. owned each one when they first came out, still work great today...

Biggest thing missing from the Sega CD is Venom. He’s no longer randomly appearing in the game to harass you and make your life hell. That seriously upset me when I found that out.

I had both and honestly it felt like the Sega CD game was just the Genesis game recycled with some bells and whistles. At the time I was hoping for a port of the arcade. If they couldn't do that, they should have made a sequel to the Genesis game. That or at least added more bosses. Spider-man has a ton of cool villains. This game only added two main ones and two small mini ones if I remember. A few mini bosses on the stages that didn't have a main one would have been cool. Those stages felt pointless. I also liked camera mode. Was annoyed to see that go.

I like the Sega CD version more. The map to me gives it a kind of open world feel. You don't have to take a linear path you can choose where you want to go. Far as CD rot is concern, mine still works but I rather play the game emulated. I won't scratch the disc that way.

Agreed the CD one is a better game, but the photography thing was a neat feature on the Genesis one and is missed on the CD game. Also the music on the Genesis one seemed worse at the time, but aside from the CD title screen music being ok, the Genesis soundtrack holds up better. Dirty as fuck. Love that Genesis title screen song.
