The original Mega Man started one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time with also many of the most iconic video game music ever. I’ve been making covers for many years and some of my best covers were from Mega Man games but surprisingly, I had yet to make a cover from the original series and what better than the very first one?
The Elec Man theme has some beautiful melodies that seem to be yearning for something, and many people have compared it to “Faithfully” from Journey which is a pretty cool coincidence as someone who likes 80s rock. It’s always fun to cover Mega Man themes and this was a blast exploring and it inspired me to write some melodic solos that express those same feelings of yearning.

Awesome well put together performance, and interesting you mentioned journey's Faithfully and i can hear it. a bit of a deja vu since the samurai woods remix i just did is a remix stevie wonders higher ground which Guilherme Bittencourt pointed out to me or the red hot chili peppers remake that always made me think that funky sound was a bass pedal. but it was a Electric Clavinet D9 that stevie has brought out for his performances on that song specifically. i found it looking through harpsicords on the Roland Fantom and liked how it sounded an went with it not even realizing samurai woods was a remake of songs i heard throughout the 80's and 90's hahaha. Btw The electric clavinet is a electrical version of the Clavichord which sounds like a Harpsicord and a banjo mixed if you get the chance check out the video " Clavichord, Italy, late 16th or early 17th century "

@@StevenCusic Yeah, I've noticed some video game themes have similarities with iconic songs of the past. Someone pointed at me that the Robo theme in Chrono Trigger sounds like Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up". One wonders sometimes if it was intentional but I'm sure sometimes it's just a coincidence like it was for the Elec Man theme (at least that's what the composer Manami stated). Sick rendition of this old classic! I really like this approach to the idea of electricity here too. Most composers seem to go for a very tight staccato and stab-heavy sound to denote lightning strikes or what have you, but your arrangement gives it a much looser sound, like energy flowing through a grid. Feels very appropriate for Elec Man. Kind of gives me old school Satriani vibes too. Very cool stuff!

That's a throughout analysis, and you're right. That's exactly what I was going for. I wondered "How can I make this unique while at the same time staying true to the original?" and all I had was to play in my usual style and just let the sound flow into my guitar as fast as it flowed in my mind. It's a great compliment to be put in the same sentence as Satriani, since I'm a big fan of that 80s sound and he's one of the best at the instrumental rock. It's sad that Capcom kind of abandoned it, but at least we got the legacy collection. There's also a Mega Man Battle Network collection I want to get at some point. Nowadays I'm making tabs for every cover including this one for when you have time to learn the guitar. I like the contrast between the lead and hard rhythm guitar with this pop elements and warm synth-sounds :) This makes this one really hitting my nostalgic soul! And yeah even the mega man 1 ost even if they developer weren't sure, were their journey will lead did an amazing job with the soundtrack - You captured the heroic feeling of this song really! I'm glad you noticed those different elements combined on this one. You know that as much as I have the metal side of me, I also have more of that 80's melodic rock background to me. And this was the perfect song for it as many have compared it to a song by Journey and I wanted to bring those elements of that era into this one as to blend in both worlds. The synth part was one of my favorite additions and when I nailed it, I was so happy with it so I'm glad you appreciated it. Like always, this is a great well thought-out comment.
