Your pilot skills are probably making the difference in terms of how much damage you're taking. That and the fact that you always max your armor while the enemies often have significantly less.

Also the armament mixes, they tend to be Jacks of all, rather than focusing, also you tend to end up brawling so those long range mixes don't work so well.

Yep this is it. Base builds almost never take full armor, and even with YAML the IS opponents rarely run endo/ferro/XL builds.

I love the immersion into the battle. I honestly wish there was more of it in the vanilla game. As for the damage human piloting fires more often then the AI pilots do even with the mods and more focused on particular components

On the damage question, I have noticed that their armor is very low. I mean, they often only have half of their max armor. It doesn't take much to punch through only 34 armor on a heavy mech's right torso. When they have more optimal builds, you can see the increase in time to breach the armor. I think that as you increase in difficulty ratings you will see better builds by the enemies.

When I watch you play, I dig the smoke and all the intense battlefield effects. When I'm playing on my own game, I want to be able to see. So, I vote that you keep all the "dirty" effects that you like so much. :)

Regarding the damage discrepancy question in the beginning: it might be that it's because the enemies' equipment is more standardized when they are in battle. So, yes, they might have a Clan instead of a IS laser, or an LBX instead of a regular Autocannon, but maybe they just have tier 1 always?

23:30 You can pick the cantina missions, and dismiss them in the "Objectives" tab. Do a mission, and when you come back, you`ll have 3 new available cantina missions to choose from. A star system with a cantina+multiple missions=profit

Love the smoke and high effects on weapons which helps to keep it realistic, would hate a laggy experience where you couldnt follow the movements on the battlefield at all.

Smokes fine, lets people get a feel for how to utilize the sensors and or view settings. Damage output is just weak pilots vs you. You can see that just letting you squad go on enemies, they take forever . It'd be cool if you could give more detailed commands like "headshot"

Something to consider is that the endgame doesn't necessarily mean heavier mechs. With better equipment you can afford to use lighter, faster mechs even on 100 difficulty missions. My endgame mechs are usually 55-75 tons with masc, superchargers, and hardened armor. Speed is much more valuable than firepower for most missions.

Baradul: stomps around with an AC20 BF at full fire rate, racking up big kills and virtually ignored by the OpFor heavy metal. Walks away with some yellowed armor. Me: kill a few somethings in a row and the whole battlefield shifts to Look At Me. Ends mission with seriously eaten up armor. ...maybe I need to stop hoarding DPS for myself to build more of it into my squad. Big LRMS mounts may be the ticket, since they let the squaddie rack up lots of vehicle kills....

0:59 I think it comes down to pilot skills (avoidance, shielding, and weapons). Enemy pilots have lower skills in these and therefore do less damage and take more damage than yours do. It goes back to when you jumped right into a new game for Rise of Rasalhague. Your pilots had much lower skills than someone who had started a game and worked their way to there. Therefore, you got hammered and had to fight for your life on several occasions. Edit - others are mentioning armor and optimized builds. This is also true.

Have you thought of stacking a few heatbanks with the TSM? You will stay hot for longer to take better advantage of the TSM and have a high heat threshold for slinging damage...

As others have said, additional armour, higher tier weapons and upgrades will all have an effect. When you get your alpha damage up into the 60+ range and enemy mechs only have 50-60 torso armour they are going to die pretty quick. Get the Alpha damage into the 90 plus range and you can one shot a lot of mechs

i think the smoke adds to the feeling of being ina warzone, and honetly, if u ever saw the smoke of a burning car/maschine/house, u know that smoke is dirty and particle rich af and not possible to see tru the slightest bit, so honestly its fine the way it is imo ^^

in terms of damage, don't forget you tend to max armor... also sure piloting is a thing too... you also tend to TRY and take out the bigger damage makers before they can hit you... just like Han shot first... also having TSM's is good, but still nice to know you can cool a mech if needed too... think of it like a ice ballet, you don't need to do the triple twist, but nice to know you can if need be...

If you can find ER-MPL(c), I think it's exactly what you're looking for. It's higher DPS than the Inner Sphere ER LLas-SB for less weight. My Battlemaster is unstoppable when I boat them. 😆

The pilot skills are probably the reason why you have a step up on your enemies since I think the ai is trapped at a max of ten in each skill while your pilots can go higher than that

The default setting of the games is that only the player does rated damage. All npcs do a percentage of rated damage. Also you have to take pilot skill into consideration, that also changes values.

The yaml-settings have a damage modifier in them, I think it's 50% to player lance by default, these are the ones that you reach directly via the main menu, not in the mod settings.

Baradul starts with maximizing armor on all his Mechs. Then is mystified why his Mechs don't take as much damage as unoptimised AI machines. 😁 How to increase difficulty of fights? Cut your armor in half.

Your shield skills seems to spread the damage evenly on your mech instead of being focused on a single part. The higher it is, the more even it gets. Thats what I noticed at least on my companions maxed out. They get hit a lot but when I check their damage, its all evened out. No parts is damaged more. So my guess is that it does the same to you as a player. The damage "number" you get hit by is the same but spread out evenly. Also, the armor the enemy has depends on its veterancy. If you see a "green" enemy, itll go down way faster than an elite. And lastly, if you command your team to focus fire, again, depending on their skills, they will focus the torso and quickly destroy the target mech. In my playthrough, I could down an Atlas with focus fire with medium mechs in 4-5 secs. My team was maxed out on this weapon skills.

You can tell when you will fight enemy mercs before you even accept the mission. The base payout will be much higher than usual. Knowing this you can farm mercs.

You have a mission to collect a locust and a crab. But you never collect the pieces even though you have seen the parts many many times. Why not replace them with missions that you may complete? I avoid those collect missions unless I have the money or one already collected since I never remember to collect them. lol

I have a question. I play on Xbox and I cannot seem to target allies to check their status. There's no option for me to see what condition they are aside from just hopping into their mech. The bar graph on top left is not always helpful

so with the whole you take less damage I'm no coder but the skills of the given pilot can vary with you're damage reduction the enemy's skill with a given weapon and weapon tier. I not sure but I think the weapons for most default mechs are tier 1unless changed for say elite opponents.

i think smoke is fine, as long as its see through. if you could make that happen, that would be nice. if i was playing personally, i would go with less smoke because i want to see the impacts and the damage they do. shooting on sensors into black smokewalls half the time just doesnt do anything for me.

On the smoke issue, I'm not sure less smoke should mean less immersion. What's smoking on these mechs anyway? They're not burning diesel, most of the weapons are powderless, military rockets are intentionally made not to leave trails that make counter-measures simple . . . so why all the smoke? There would be debris and a smoking crater when a reactor goes up, but mech war should generally be less smoky than war as we know it.

The nice smoke and lighting effects are pointless if you're forced to use thermal vision because of them. I think turning the effects down would actually let us see more of them.

no, i believe that it only seems like they do less because they are not alpha striking all the time? we the players all alpha strike, the ai does not due to heat. i have never seen the ai shut down from heat so, i am assuming that is the case.

If you want the enemy to last a bit longer, play with the settings and set amount of armour and structural to 2x maybe up to 5x ... 5x is a lot of fun, high tear weapons make so much more difference. Also check modifier how much damage are you receiving, is it set to 0.5x or something similar?

1:52 Its gotta be totally baked into the game. Your suppose to win. The enemy has crap accuracy. Is there damage logs that show how much damage you take from what?? But yeah I had the same thought a bunch of video's back. For the player if your in one weight class and your attacking something above your weight class there should be some heavy damage mitigation in favor of the enemy going on so its harder for you to kill them, and not that it would be easy for them to kill you but because it plays out longer you would take more damage.. Another way to go about it would be a simple player DPS nerf slider. You could equip all the cool stuff and tiered equipment you want but it would just do less damage overall. You could slide it around until It did "feel right". In Mass Effect 1 I liked to keep my squadmates with just crap guns and killer armor. They were there , they were shooting, but I got to do all the killing lol.

@@dieSpinnt No no, see, the fact is still fun (maybe not objectively, but relative to my perspective, because I think it’s fun 🤷🏻♂️). But yes, we as humans tend to align our perception of time based on what we deem important. I don’t know that I would refer to using the changing of the seasons as “arbitrary” as at the time it was established, it indicated the start of the planting season and food is rather important to survival. Basing it on an individuals religious beliefs however, definitely arbitrary.
