Us too! I had told my husband about the fan always running in our laundry room and just today (a year after we moved into our new construction home) he finally heard the low fan noise that I had been trying to tell him was going on. This explanation totally makes sense. Now we don't have to let our maintenance guy check on this for us. Thank you so much!

Very little cost to run but it’s also exhausting heat during the winter which increases your heating bill.
@motogp2375 Жыл бұрын
The reason why i want to turn it off. Turned on heat during winter months but this fan wants to sucked it all out. There goes utility bill ⬆️ .

The dude said, (I'll paraphrase) 'if this exhaust system is in your home, the builder has insulated the home really well.' This is why we don't see it in lower, middle, upper middle, and even "high end" Tract House homes. The added cost of insulating the new 'spec.' home, vs. The value of the improved real estate would have serious effects on the P&L sheet. All that to say, it is the radiant temperature of the building that supplies the climate control with efficiency. These constant run exhaust fans are usually located in a climatilogically inconspicuous room, like the laundry room. And the surrounding insulation is usually compensating for those unstable room already. The point of this system is to provide a Healthier environment for our families to live. We lock ourselves up in air right homes. We're inside a climate controlled box now, more than outside. This has effects on our health and wellness. Having steady flow of fresh, outside air added to our climate controlled environments or constant breathing of stale air?

How does a solution like this make indoor air better in an old house, or new house if you have allergies and live where a lot of pollen and dust are now being brought inside?
@bobc.28104 жыл бұрын
Sure the actual electricity and maintenance is cheap but it pulls all the heat out of the house.
@williamkerley3833 жыл бұрын
You bet, it does increase heating bills slightly in winter and cooling slightly in summer, but It's nice to have fresh outside air for you and your family. New houses with spray foam insulation are so tight that this feature is important for health. I actually prefer an intake that ducts directly into the return of the air handler so the house is positive and not negative. You can also buy, and some builders use, a small energy recovery ventilator that exhausts and intakes air and transfers heat which will save on heating and cooling bills, but they require routine maintenance and filter changes. My old house here in Phoenix leaks like a sieve, but I still crack a window for some fresh air for the family.

I'm in a new built home in Vegas. The constant on fan is now making a clicking noise not the low humming noise it used to make. Sierra is the HVAC subcontractor. Is there anything wrong with it?
@jenniferspring874111 ай бұрын
If the construction is so tight, where is the fan pulling the fresh air in from? Wouldn’t you have to have a window open?
@moparmadnes13183 ай бұрын
It pulls in the air from the smallest shell leaks of the home plumbing penetrations,canisters reces lights,wall outlets,windows,doors etc (Theirs is no such thing as a house to tight 0 ACM that is (Air changes per minute) any house below 5 ACM (in CALIFORNIA at least) is required to have mechanical ventilation installed to provide the house with some moving (outside)fresh air if you remove that function as people do at time it creates mold like stale air and other air problems within the home (if you have respiratory problems etc could contribute)as it’s not pushing/moving that air out of home.. The State will literally have us(Weatherization Technicians) literally seal as best as we can a house to even below 5 ACM if possible meaning All the possible minor/Catastrophic UNCONTROLLED air leaks(windows doors etc)then install a mechanical fan (defeating the purpose in a way)to a CONTROLED leak so to speak(bathroom fan) !! Hope that answered your question

@@moparmadnes1318 still find it slightly hard to believe that you would get enough fresh air from unintended leaks, but it is your profession and I respect that! Thank you for taking the time for the reply, I really appreciate it!

I would like to replace a regular fan in our laundry room with a continuous fan because it's over the cat litter box and even though we clean it 2-3 day, it would be nice to catch the odors as they are created, (:). However, it must be quiet, like bathroom vents in hotels. Any recommendations on which brand/model to look at? Thank you!

Today we moved our LG washer and dryer away from the wall to clean under and around. When we reconnected them, an exhaust fan in the ceiling came on. We've lived here 16 years and this is the first time it came on. There isn't a switch in our laundry room. Very puzzled as to why it started up.
@richarddaddio3602 жыл бұрын
Should this fan be mounted next to heating or air conditioning ducts? Wouldn't it also draw out expensive heating or cooling? Plus, what is the logic of placing it in a room like a bathroom which is a common room to have to door closed a lot of the time?
@toddgeer19648 жыл бұрын
If you can, i have a question. when we moved in, the fan would barely run with the switch off. after using the fan, it would slowly return to barely running. 3 years in, it is always on. is this right? is it exhausting warm air out? it's annoying that it changed and i don't know why. thanks!

Hello Todd. I apologize for the delay in responding. After hearing about your exhaust, it sounds like you need a service call as your exhaust is not running properly. What area do you live in? If you are in Las Vegas, we would be happy to help. If not, maybe we can help with a recommendation.

This is great information. I'm planning on moving into a 2bd apartment, and one of the bathroom fans is required to constantly stay on. However, its not quiet. It sounds like a good powerful vent. I'm trying to figure out if this kind of vent will spike up my monthly bill. The property says its a Nu Tone bathroom vent. Would you have any idea how much a constant, loud bathroom vent will cost me? Thank you!

Unfortunately, we cannot quantify an actual number of utility usage, however it will be a low power consumption.
