Diocletian leaves behind him a new imperial succession system : the Tetrarchy. This system almost immediately breaks down as rivalries between emperors are already forming.

Fantastic video! Could you do a short video or some sort of explanation as to why Constantius and then Constantine got Hispania added to their territory and why Galerius got Asia Minor. Was it because of their change from Caesar to Augustus?
@ancientsight
@ancientsight 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your feedback ! Indeed this is, according to the sources I used, because of their accession to Augustus. If I was to guess I would say that Constantius didn't see the point in moving his already established headquarters from Trier to Mediolanum. And both Galerius and Constantius wanted a bigger piece of land since the provinces they already had (Balkans, Gaul, Britannia) were not the best the empire could offer. Plus this did not reflect their new imperial rank

At the creation of the Tetrarchy, the reason for such an initial repartition was that, each emperor was to have 3 of the 12 dioceses

How exactly is Constantine late Roman Empire? The Empire lasted for a thousand years+ after him. By that standard he'd be early or mid Roman Empire.
@mike-gn1wi
@mike-gn1wi Ай бұрын
Everyone understands that the late empire refers to the centuries leading up to the fall of the West in 476. Youre not more knowledgeable or special because you go “um actually muh eastern Rome 1453” it’s just a way people divide up historical periods

@@vincentkosik403 No,it was actually Licinianus,who rebelled,along with Calocaerus and was thus sentenced to a life of servitude.This was only possible,due to Licinianus illegitimate origins,unlike that of his brother.Licinius,his half brother,was either executed by his uncle,or by his cousins after Constantine's death.

He was not great nor an augustus, he was a snake who changed religion as he changed allegiance. May his meals become ashes in his mouth, may maggots feast on his eyes, may he know punishment in Hades, may Nemesis take revenge upon him as it is fit to those who murdered their own blood. He should be forever remember as Constantine the Betrayer, as he betrayed his son, his God and his country. He is only known as the Great because of those christian simonist who for the right price sold to him absolution as he was consume by his remorse.

What Bullshits are you saying Roman Emperors are not totally in one Religion of Polytheist some followed Mithraism , some followed the Semi- Monotheist Sol Invictus, some are outright Philosophers, some are Worshippers of Graeco-Roman Religion and some are Atheist same with Constantine I , Roman Emperors are largely Secular Rulers till the time of Komennian Dynasty when Emperors stop becoming Secular Ruler .
