I've been playing around with a solo acoustic cover of this and I think, for all the talents of Maynard and Billy, the contribution of Josh Freese is so utterly integral that I just can't find the song without it. As stupid as it sounds, I think the best route to covering this solo acoustic is actually to find a way to get the drum part down on guitar and then add what guitar/bass parts you can from there. That's totally beyond me as a player, though.

Yes very true and thanks for your comment. I did play around with trying to get the drum parts looped in (using my Alesis Multistrike Pad) on my RC300 looper at the start. In the end I ran out of time for it to work properly (this was part of an Open Mic night I was recording for initially). Imagine a looping cover with the drum parts in too (and bass) - would be awesome!
