Constipated Shih Tzu puppy at 2/3 weeks. Easy fix.

This was the 1st time I had tried this procedure and as you can see it was a complete success and tanker less than 10 mins.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have a two week old cleft lip puppy I've been bottle feeding every 2 hours 24hrs a day. My vet hasn't helped, he's told me better to let deformed puppies die. Last night puppy went down hill, I spent 10 hours not knowing what to do, tried all the tricks I knew. Rang vet for help, he was on call but refused to come in. I believe this video saved puppies life. It worked and almost immediately he took the bottle which he had refused all night. Thank you for your feed back. Buddy (the pup in this video) has also a cleft pallet. My vet said the same but we did the same a bottle fed him for 3/4 months before he started drinking him self. He is now 2.5 years old and doing great. So glad it helped your puppy.

Dave Smith hi, I would leave 24hrs between trying. Why not try some infracol (same as what human babies have). The pup could have trapped wind. Work perfectly on my puppy.

Was the water warm? It looked as if you were not putting enough water in at once; the syringe needed to be a bit larger or full. Not effective overall. If the puppy had not had a bowel movement in 48 hours there should be significantly more waste.

bart thomassen thomassen the water was a little warm. Since this was the 1st time I had done this I used a small pipet. That way I could insert to much water. As you can see from the video he did pass his stools successfully.

bart thomassen thomassen for a puppy this small yes. This puppy (buddy) was has a cleft pallet which meant we had couldn’t feed of mum and we had to bottle feed him every 2 hours. Only 1 month ago did he start drinking for him self from a water bowl. We almost lost him a couple of times but now at 6 months old he is doing amazing. We kept him of coarse.

You can use an enema method on any dog any age but just make sure not to hurt them or put too much if they are small

Use a medicated, slippery gel (I don't know if they make a medicated KY jelly) but you want the rash to dry out and you do that by not blocking the water from the rash from drying out which is what would happen with vaseline. Neosporin is also a good one day treatment but on the second day wipe the area with a moist medicated wipe like Preparation H which has witch hazel in it, but not so much as to set the poor pups belly and butt on fire. He will howl until that stuff is washed completely off. The witch hazel is to kill off any germs and the second day the Neosporin is greasy so very little goes a long way. And remember, you are rubbing a raw area, not scrubbing pots and pans, so be gentle. One more item while the puppy still has a red belly and is constipated and you are trying to get him to poop and clear up the rash is to see about a waist girdle so the puppy cannot be licking his stomach or his own butt, remember you are trying to dry out the rash plus using wet cotton to try and get the pup to poop.

You need a little more practice in the proper way to hold the pup before shoving the syringe up their butt, and do not stick your finger up the dogs butt, not only is it stinky particularly if your french fries are getting cold, but you also may have a hnng nail or sharp fingernail and you might end up with a septicemic infection of the dogs intestines.

This seems incorrect and abusive toward the animal. You are supposed to put in only 2cc slowly, then rub below the butt and then WAIT. It can take up to an hour for the dog to poo. What you have done - pumping this dog full of water - can risk rupturing its intestines. You say in the comments that this was your first time doing this. How irresponsible to post as if you are an experienced practitioner who can teach others but you actually haven't even done proper internet research or been trained by a real vet. Shameful.

Kelly Hauser the pipet was on on 0.5cc in each pump. I did lots of research and spoken to my vet. The process I did was from the information my vet gave me. The procedure worked perfectly and buddy stayed with me and is doing obsoletely fine. I would never put an animal in any danger
