Abstract:
This talk introduces a framework for AI literacy in education, adapting Stuart Selber's multiliteracies model to AI's unique characteristics through a constructivist lens. Participants will explore how AI resembles and differs from traditional educational technologies and learn about functional, critical, and rhetorical AI literacy and its applications to common workflows. Participants will be invited to ask questions.
Bio:
Kimberly Becker is an applied corpus linguist specializing in academic writing and English for research publication purposes. She's been an educator for 20+ years, and her most recent publications relate to applying transparent, ethical AI for academic research and writing, as well as a co-authored e-book, Preparing to Publish. Kimberly holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology from Iowa State University and an M.A. in Teaching English as an Additional Language from Northern Arizona University. She lives in Ames, Iowa, U.S., with her partner, two teen sons, and two miniature poodles.
