One end of the pipe is attached to an orifice of small tank to prevent overflow of the water. The tank is kept on a stool. The other end is attached to a graduated scale. First of all the end with the graduated scale is taken to the Bench Mark and the reading on the scale is noted. Then it is taken to every point and the same reading is marked if it is to be in level with the Bench Mark or suitable graduation is marked according to the required level.
