I never thought that the Construction industry had such a strong environmental impact!

Worst is normal cement concrete. You need 1500 °C to make it and that emits a lot of CO2 but two times more (66%) is emitted by the raw material because lime (CaCO3) is the main raw material and it is a stone building mineral which consist of CO2! It is clam shells which took the CO2 out of the atmosphere million years ago and the cement manufacturer dig this safely stored CO2 out of the ground and pump it back in the atmosphere. And for what? To make a cheap cement. Because it being cheap, is the only reason why it is used so much. The only. And is it really cheap? No, of course not. There is no free lunch. It is the consumers who pay the money the cement manufacturer take for burning our tires and other garbage as "environmentally friendly energy source". Yes they take money for them taking on fuels like plastics which burn fantastic as such high temperatures. That is why I love geopolymers. The Wikipedia article about geopolymers is quite good, by the way. Have a good one! Pat

I also like Fresco's idea of knocking down old cities, mining them for their materials, & starting fresh using memory materials, & designs where the skeleton can be disassembled instantly. He estimated that by means of automation, we can change the surface of the planet in 10 years. But also pointed out that humans need a higher social value system, because still, even now, with the planet burning & flooding, people think money is more important than the betterment of man & all life on earth - which is just insane!

Circular Economy and its implementation and adaptation to the various phases of construction sector is of utmost significance. Its awareness and the changes at the policy making level is emerging steadily but it requires a great amount of effort from every construction Industry stakeholder's management level as a firm initiative to have an impact right from resource raw material extraction to its evolution as a market valuable product, construction and till demolition, decommissioning, recycling of the structure and its components. The concept is completely amazing and the way its delivered is highly appreciated and impactful, Thanks for the overview! Wish to see more on the concept!

we totally agree with your comment and believe the construction industry to be one of the most difficult to change

that's interesting. Could you do another video about tecnlogy products and Circular economy?

Thanks. Consider that some tech products support circular practices while others carry sgnificant implications for the environment. We have some ideas for a video to assess the ICT sector.

I have this doubt: What's the difference between sustainable and circular economy?
@worldynamicschannel4 жыл бұрын
They are definitely interrelated concepts. Sustainability is about understanding ALL interactions between human, environmental, and engineered systems to preserve the current state. Under this perspective phenomena like population growth are fundamental. The Circular Economy instead is a way to reinterpret the ECONOMIC paradigm with sustainability principles in mind; hence it contributes to solve the complex challenges that threaten the integrity of life support systems of the planet, but is not an holistic approach.
