Great idea. I experienced many trips from Denmark to Stockholm in Sveden. You travel from city center to city center. You do not have to show up 2 or 3 hours before departure - 1 minute is enough. You do not go through this annoying security check. And in train the comfort is at least like business class in a plain. Still Arlanda, airport in Stockholm, is far away from the city - this generates additional noticeable cost.

Disconnection from Russia LOL. This line makes sense from Polish-Lithuanian perspective and will be the lone line in EU gauge in the Baltics. And it's been postponed many times. As for now, only small sections in Lithuania around Kaunas are built. In Riga there is a reconstruction of the main railway terminal but that's it. This project is huge mess riddled with corruption schemes all over it. Don't expect it to be commissioned next 10 years AT LEAST. It will be faster for Russia to change its regime than for Rail Baltica to be built (except for Kaunas - Bialystok line). Moreover, this line is only needed to connect to Poland. Baltic countries as a whole employ Russian gauge and Finland does it too, so there is absolutely NO sense in making a tunnel in EU gauge and it could be done in Russian gauge instead as Finland has no interest in rebuilding its whole railway network into EU gauge. Baltic countries won't do it either. There is only one country around them that uses standard gauge (Poland) and Belarus, Russia and Finland all use Russian gauge. Assuming Russian political changes railway lines will be revitalized again. Source: I have a friend working at the Latvian Railways R&D.
