Which building materials are the strongest in case of an earthquake? Watch this incredible physics simulation video to find out! This is my UPDATED simulation since 1 MILLION people gave me useful insights in my previous video :)

MEDIA and INQUIRIES: You can reach out to me at: earthquakesim@gmail.com

Let's start a conversation in the comments below about interesting things that you have noticed in this simulation!
I hope these simulations will bring more earthquake awareness around the world and educate the general public about potential earthquake related hazards. I do also hope that my videos will inspire a younger generation of architects, engineers and scientists!

Welcome to the world’s largest and only 3D earthquake simulation channel on KZbin! My channel focuses on realistic 3D earthquake simulations of a variety of virtual structures and types of buildings from around the world. Some of my work has been featured by various international media news outlets and it has also been used by other large KZbin channels such as GeologyHub, GeoPop and CaSeismograph for educational purposes. This channel’s content has also been featured on the Curiosity Channel in a recent documentary called “Breakthrough: Forecasting the Big One”.
The simulations that I post serve an educational purpose and should be solely treated as such. We should not forget that earthquakes are real world events that can sometimes lead to loss of properties and lives.

A comparison between a building made with cold-formed steel or light steel framing and a masonry building would be interesting. Great job!

The collapse of the remaining concrete at the end of 10 was epic and also saw signs that wood wasn't going to survive 11. Great sim!

Steel buildings are certainly the safest, as they are the least likely to catastrophically collapse, and even if they collapse there should be more gaps to make rescue more promising due to more ductile failures. Not all reinforced concrete buildings need to collapse at an XI or XII intensity, though. If you look at the 2023 Turkey earthquake, the main shock reached MMI XI-XII (Extreme) in Antakya (Antioch and surrounding Hatay province) and near the epicenter, but you can still see plenty of apartment buildings standing. Peak ground acceleration reached up to 2 g in some areas.

You should do one of these tests with Ancient structures like Mayans, Inca, Roman, Chinese, and the Japanese. I know that the Japanese Pagodas are built without any nails, and were built like an upside down tree where each floor just floats on top of each other, And there's this dampener "Tree Trunk" that is allowed to sway freely from the top floor

This doesn't seem fully realistic for real buildings built to resist the earthquake. The construction of such a building involves more than just putting together the invidual parts

Wood really is a strong material. I somehow knew the concrete building would collapse first. Problem with concrete is that while it is strong, by itself it's very brittle.

Tip: when any Piece of building collapses and when it touches the ground destroys into rubble and make a smokey effect that it makes Irl, that'll help increase the realism

I don't know if you take recommendations on structures anymore but, If you could do a mobile home park it would be neat since a lot of people who don't have a lot of resources live and knowing what can happen and being prepared helps. I personally live in a mobile home in the area that if the wabash sismic zone ruptured it could be a intensity of 6.

Hey EQS! I love your videos and they are certainly a gotta-watch once you post them! One suggestion if I may. Would it be possible to put a couple varying intensity figures on the slides please? MMI + Richter or a particularly large earthquake that happened at each level if it lines up? Kind of like when people in videos do MPH and KPH or Feet and Meters.

Hi, I really love your work. I just find the simulation of the trees (on a lot of the video) to be a bit weird, in the sense that they bend but never break even after a crane or an entire building falls on them. Otherwise I'm already looking forward to the next video, it's like an addiction for me.

I'm not sure if it's relevant or not, but I would think it could make a bigger impact than it might seem. Does the earthquake simulator or do most simulations take into account for the rotation of the earth? It seems like the masses involved, especially as height increases would be affected by the rotation especially anything after the initial vibration or wave from the earthquake, it seems it could add to cause a whiplash type motion with greater stresses involved, as well as torsional forces all adding to strain on the structure. Great video as always! 🍻🌎♥️🎶🕺
@EarthquakeSim

Your comment made my day! I’m happy to see that you’re thinking outside of the box. My simulator takes into account many things but not earth rotation🙂 it would be cool to experiment different scenarios
@dancingwiththedogsdj
@dancingwiththedogsdj 8 ай бұрын
@@EarthquakeSim Wouldn't it possibly be a pretty significant impact on the stresses, especially at joints like I mentioned? That much shifting mass is rather resistant to abrupt changes of any kind and obviously isn't picky on what gets in the way! It was the twisting motion as the structure collapsed that made me think about rotation even though I am pretty sure it was more just the spiral elements within the structure that caused that. Have a wonderful day! You made mine as well. Thank you, kindly! 🌎♥️🎶🕺 P.S. - I don't consider it thinking outside of the box. I never think of there being a box in the first place. I mean, if you wanted me to keep a leash on this brain power you should have said so! LMAO 🤪😉🙃😁

@@EarthquakeSim What about adding to your program a way to optimize the design in various ways to optimize the best vs cost so that maybe you could find cost effective ways to improve existing structures and show that small changes might increase survivability in most real world or extreme cases. Maybe have some A.I. integration to assist either designing the program itself or somewhere within optimization process. Seems doable. 🍻🌎♥️🎶🕺

could you ad 3d motion of the ground? like it happens in Mexico City? Also something important is that the ground in Mexico doesnt move the same along the length and width of your foundation, but there happens differential displacement during the earthquakes, so no other column feels the same acceleration at a time.
@solutionrevolution7221
@solutionrevolution7221 6 ай бұрын
I feel there is still a component of earthquakes that is not being taken into consideration. the waves of force not only displace the earth side to side but also it displaces it vertically which changes all forces being applied to this. Also geology, what type of geology as soil type and mass can affect how the waves travel through the quake. This can all have a big difference in how the building would survive. Building on soft sediment would not survive as well as building on more compact soil, a rock foundation would react differently as well. So now because we are aware of these things when building every building is built based on geology.
@EarthquakeSim
@EarthquakeSim 6 ай бұрын
You are right about that!! If you look carefully at the higher intensities XI and XII you can see the vertical movement better☺️
