They should implement that spray on stuff in our asphalt for roads. If it's that resistant to cracking and impacts, that could solve the pothole problem in the US and with constantly having to repave. Just mix it in with the asphalt before paving a road and it would hold up for decades. The fact that it's waterproof is also a plus. No water sinking through the asphalt would help prevent sinkholes from forming under the roads which in turn also helps prevent potholes from forming. The water could be collected, cleaned and redirected to farms or areas where the water is needed. In areas where salt is used on roads in the winter, instead of having to keep adding new salt after every storm polluting the environment, the salt could be extracted from the runoff during the water purification process and reused next year. Town and cities could potentially save millions of dollars per year just by doing this.

Instead of spending billions on patching and half assed repairs spend the billions on research and upgrades. If for example they spend 5 billion on repairs every year wouldn't it make more sense to spend 10 or 15 billion to come up with a way to make roads last for decades rather than a year or two? Spend a little more now and save tons later. Makes sense to me but greed will never let that happen.

Our logs are about 200mm thick, but the specific log building technique used in Norway minimize the heat-loss at the joint between each layer as there is two sealing surface between each stacked log, plus a layer of sheepwool to minimize draft.

As a contractor specialized in water damage repair I can tell you that trapped moisture kills any structure. Wood rots, steel rusts (in case of that steel being rebar, destroying the surrounding concrete with it) and even a saturated brick turns to dust when it freezes. Funnily enough (and possibly counterintuitive) a straw bale building is actually quite low on the list of water ingress becoming problematic. Because it can buffer a lot more water before it becomes a problem than most other materials.

Composite deck tiles get so hot with just a bit of mixed sunny/cloudy weather, that you burn your feed if barefoot. Nothing for people with dogs/cats or children or who want to walk without shoes in the summer in their own garden. I once had the pleasure to step on them in the UK (yes, the country of rain and clouds) with bare foot and I almost burned my feet. They are no replacement for timber at all. I think with full sunshine on a hot summer day, this "plastic/resin" stuff would have been the reason for a hospital visit. If you think about using them, buy a sample and test it yourself first. Maybe you ever used timber sidewalks on the beaches in UK, Spain, Germany being barefoot.... They can already get pretty hot, but that's still ok, you walk faster or use them just the last few meters. But these composite materials get dangerously hotter.

Having been a fire chief in the past with experience with hay bales, in my opinion that construction using hay bales with a concrete outer layer can be dangerous to the inhabitants. During my many years in the fire service I have personally seen two fires that occurred do to spontaneous combustion of the hay when it was inside a poured concrete form. One caused a fair amount of damage to the house that it was attached to. In both cases the bales were the fill inside stairs going into the home where the bales were formed like stairs inside and then concrete was poured in a form around the bales. There are still many great construction methods but using bales of hay is not my recommendation.

Concrete modular units aren’t new, …just look at Habitat 67, that project was built for the Universal exposition 1967 in Montreal, (Quebec/Canada).

Interesting content. The music sounds like it was stolen from a 1980’s skin flick though.

The lead-in sounds like Criswell's comments on the "future" in Ed Wood's classic movie 'Plan Nine From Outer Space'. You know, gibberish.

It works until you get a single crack in that concrete. Then you will have what is called a catastrophic collapse once moisture or bugs get into the hay and starts eating away at it. On a side note we could easily use everyday trash that does not decompose and make bundles out of it and that would be far stronger. Man that is a great idea, create foundations and walls out of trash to help cut down on waste. Someone said i was smart once.

A lot off these methods are prone to failure and do not reduced cost whatsoever .Passive houses are the way to save energy.Thermal mass is free heat and cooling from nature

Ask yourself how many of these innovations in the past have proved to be costly failures. I can think of a few. eg High alumina cement/concrete, Reinforced autoclaved concreter beams etc.
