Her death is one of the saddest movie deaths for me. Showing her laying there on that makeshift bed; her last act is one of kindness, and then cutting to a shot of her laying there, dead on the ground. No crying. No big scene. Just a quiet death - buried among the many others who died just the same.

@AirShark95
@AirShark95 4 жыл бұрын
Mears' character was based on the real-life doctor Carlo Urbani who did amazing work during the 2003 SARS epidemic but sadly contracted the virus and passed away. Her character was created to pay homage to all the selfless health care workers that are willing to sacrifice theit lives to save the rest of us. Carlo Urbani, Li Wenliang, Matthew Lukwiya and countless other doctors, nurses and scientists have paid the ultimate sacrifice just like Dr. Mears in the movie. I think it is fair we remember them and remind ourselves that because of people like them we can come home everyday to our families in good health and in good spirit.

It seems sad for her to be buried in a mass grave... but its seemingly poetic. She died trying to save people and now she lays down with those she tried to protect but couldn't.

Aside from the last scene of this movie, this was honestly the scariest part of the movie. Here we had a seemingly central character in the movie doing heroic work of being on the frontline. And then she contracts the virus and dies before getting buried in a mass grave like a nobody. It points to both a fragility of life but also how we are mere dots in this world of billions even when we are the central character of our own story.

The alarm bells have been ringing for at least 25 years. Books, conferences, articles, lectures, movies, scientific think tanks..... we knew it was only a matter of time. But our incompetent President Trump bungled the response, and now tens of thousands are dying. As of today, 4/11/20, the U.S. COVID-19 death rate is the highest of any country in the world - surpassing even Italy and China.

Fuck me, this scene hits hard. She's one of the best characters and the one everyone is rooting for. We all get terrified when she starts coughing, but most viewers will assume she'll make it because she's a main character and her cause is heroic. But the virus doesn't care. It gets inside and destroys her like it would anybody else. This movie is horrific in its realism.

dude this movie was just a bunch of twists. for some reason i really thought she was going to make it, even though we knew the mortality rate of the disease before the vaccine. i guess i kind of assumed that, because she was a main character - because she was the _good guy_ - she would make it. but seeing her dumped in the mass grave with all the others just showed how forgettable and indifferent she is in the eyes of a pandemic.

Probably because Mears was a righteous character, whereas Paltrow's character was an adulterous trollop. When we see bad things happen to rotten people, we appreciate the karma and move on with our lives. I watched this movie for the very first time only a couple of nights ago on TV. It is hauntingly very similar to what is happening in regards to the Coronavirus pandemic. I felt so sorry for Kate Winslet's character in this movie. She had a hard time dealing with the bureaucrats that worried more about costs above public safety. Their was one particular scene in which Dr Mears is questioned by a bureaucrat about who will cover the costs of setting up that field hospital. Dr Mears sadly dies in that field hospital from the very thing she was trying to protect others from. As for the real life disease detectives, they deserve more credit and recognition for their work. For those that work in the field during a pandemic, they ought to at least have a couple of elite soldiers or body guards under their command. Also, a signed document from the Head of State that guarantees full cooperation by all organisations and local governments etc. If the bureaucrats do not cooperate, they should be thrown in jail.

I know. I was shocked when her character ended up sick and then ended up dead. That was so sad. RIP Dr. Mears. 😢😭

I mean, this makes sense given the character's background (Carlo Urbani metaphor), and the narrative poetry, but still...if I were her, I would've shot myself in the head once I got the test confirmation.

Did anyone else notice that her temperature says 36.2 C on the screen? That’s a normal body temperature (maybe even a tad low) and she’s supposed to have this high fever. 36.2 C is roughly 97.1 F, btw.

This scene makes me think of my wife (a PA) and shows that medical workers take their oaths seriously to sever and help humans even at their own expense. God Bless all medical workers risking their lives during this current pandemic of the #Wuhan #Coronavirus (#Covid19)!

I think a lot of people misinterpret this scene. I think it's meant to imply she knows she is a goner, so she does one selfless act.

If we don’t pay attention in the next few weeks, months, these mass graves are going to be a lot more common this winter.

I never noticed the little frog near her head at 0:45. Poor little guy, I wonder if he wandered into the scene? I hope the crew saved him. 🥺

This was for me the most disturbing scene of the movie cause these massive burials really happened when the death toll for Covid-19 soared so much that there wasn´t any possibility of giving them a Christian sepulture in an ordinary cemetery
