One quick tip for icd 10 cm. Any code ending in 8 is usually meaning other specified and ending in 9 is unspecified .

On the test I'm taking doesn't require the manuals. So hopefully I won't have questions referring to the codes because I can't afford the manuals and have never seen any or used any of them. If you're thinking about taking this course, learn grim my experience and just go with the aapc. I went with medcerts which I regret because they refuse to give you the manuals. I went thru a career center as well so I didn't have many options either. I'm not even testing with aapc so... who knows if my certifications will even get me a job. 😢

There are no anesthesia guidelines in ICD-10-CM as anesthesia is not a diagnosis. The anesthesia guidelines would be in your CPT book.

I think I had read that anesthesia is billed in 15 min increments. Would it be safe to narrow it down to only answers that divide by 15 evenly? In this case, it would rule out all answers except one. Is that correct and applicable to all anesthesia questions? Thanks!

Hello. I have a question about the neonate circumcision. Why wouldn't it be the code be 54160? I see it says for the code neonate (28 days or less) and I have learned ,with newborns and children, it is important to specify age. Code 54150 does not have the neonate specification. Thank you.

CPT code 54150 is for a circumcision, using clamp or other device with or without a dorsal slit. Since the dorsal block is not performed, you wouldn't use a separate code or modifier just because it was omitted. 54150 already accounts for circumcision with or without the use of a dorsal block. Therefore, it would still be the correct code to use in this situation.

If you used all four hours=240 minutes you have 2.4 minutes per question. Ample time to finish it even at the 150 min mark if you studied well enough and do your practice exams. Don’t worry too much about the “time constraint”. You have so much time per question. Again; STUDY STUDY STUDY!

I failed my exam in September doing it online and it was so uncomfortable. It took AAPC a whole month to get my results back which added more to my anxiety. Doing it again on January 14 in person and I'm still not ready

Do you think a student who is only a quarter of the way through school should or should not use the BHAT method? Meaning do you think you should wait until you have more experience with CPT before doing something like that? This has been suggested to me by an instructor

Tabs may be inserted, taped, pasted, glued, or stapled in the manuals so long as the obvious intent of the tab is to earmark a page with words or numbers, not supplement information in the book. Altering, whiting out, painting, or printing over any pages within the code books (e.g., marketing pages, table of contents, reference pages, etc.) to supplement information is prohibited. It's completely normal to feel nervous before an exam, but remember that you have put in a lot of hard work and preparation for the CPC medical coding exam. A couple of last-minute tips: make sure to read each question carefully, utilize the process of elimination if you're unsure of an answer, and manage your time well during the exam. Also, take a deep breath and try to stay calm during the test. You got this! Good luck on your exam.
