The Inforcement Officer stated that the defendant has done alot to fix up and comply with the rules, and there are only a few minor things left for him to come into complete conpliance. The defendant agrees with the Inforcement Officer, and he also stated that she has been wonderful in her dealings with him. My question is: Why are they here then? If they've had a positive experience thus far and are working together amicably, if he's doing his part, albeit slowly because of some physical limitations but surely still getting it accomplished, why drag him into court now? It seems to me to be a frivolous thing to do and a waste of the courts time and resources when the defendant isn't even kicking back or showing defiance. Honestly, in my opinion, I think his two sons should be the ones dragged into court before Judge Washington and try to explain why their sorry, lazy butts aren't out there helping their Dad who has limits on what he can do physically.

This total jerk is NOT buddy, buddy with any of his neighbors. I agree Squishy, any other judge would have sent cops to his house and given him a place to stay for a few days.

It might have to do with him being in a wheelchair and the jail not wanting to deal with that due to lack of resources, but yeah i don't think i've seen judge Washington being firm with people who act like this ever so i guess it indeed is a judge problem.

The problem is, and this is the result of using Zoom instead of in person, that if everybody who deserved contempt got it, they'd be stacked up like cordwood. She put jailtime on the table, and maybe, just maybe, the thought of it will be enough to cool him down.

As a New Zealander (living in New Zealand) I find it unbelievable that someone is taken to court for such a petty reason. The USA is 'the greatest country in the world'? I don't think so!

@@ianandalisonstewart4710 I see the point and don't agree with a lot of the super strict city ordinances myself. However... This is in a city neighborhood with small lots. People usually have a fair bit of leeway, but you can't let your front yard become a jungle or a junkyard if you live in a city on a small lot. If you don't abide by the city ordinances, the city will go after you because they don't want the neighborhood to be come a trashy area. The neighbors care because junk is lowering their property values and can attract pests.

The son needs all of those ladders every day? Why not put a gate on the side for easy access? This is a mess!

My husband actually prank called one of our best friends' husband. She was annoyed the grass was overgrown and hubby hadn't mowed it & she couldn't physically do it herself. My husband offered to mow it ...or better yet let's prank her hubby. So my husband called his cellphone ,disguised his voice and pretended to be with town ordinance enforcement (nonsense title) and that their yard specifically lawn had been reported for violating the town ordinance for overgrowth. My husband trying not to laugh told him he had 24hrs to bring it back to compliance or be fined 500$ plus 200$ a day after 24hrs. You could hear him arguing & cussing this is "bs" on the other end. Lol .needless to say when my friend got home from work , the lawn was mowed. All she could do was try to keep a straight face. He didn't find out about the prank till that weekend over our weekly game of set-back. When we tongue-in-cheek told him how lovely the lawn looked. 😊

I am a lawyer and if he has to move trash cans AND is limited in his ability to do so due to a disability, the township or the private contractor would be responsible for making reasonable accommodations so that he can utilize the services equally, if he made such a request. In this case, a minor modification to the procedures to have the collectors get and return the cans to a small enclosed area in the driveway, adjacent to the home, instead of curbside, would be appropriate. In my city, that is an option that anyone can pay $5 per pickup to have done, and I happily pay the extra amount so I don't have to worry about it because I have difficulty walking and can afford the extra for the service. A reasonable accommodation, however, shouldn't cost extra, and he should absolutely request that if he needs that assistance.

That huge pile at the end of the driveway, the stuff scattered all over an overgrown lawn, etc. It has likely been accumulating slowly for a few years. I have no doubt that pests are breeding in it. Yeah, I've seen worse. But they all started growing the same way his is.

By the pictures, it looked like he had made good headway. If this was a first time deal, I could see cutting him some slack and give him a little more time. But if this was a continuing thing, they probably did the right thing by going ahead with the fine. That is the trouble with these videos. We never get the entire straight story
