Very cool! I think this add significant value to the ContinuuMini. First thing I'll do when I get one of these machines.

Brilliant video and idea. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Can't wait to receive my ContinuuMini :)

Lovely idea, especially combined with that amazing Beautiful Pursuit patch.

I like the idea and the detailed explanation.. however, it also frightens me a bit that the default Z-axis and Y-axis of the Continuumini control-strip might be to hard to control properly and therefore you need this extra addition to get the most out of the instrument. Personally I don't see myself building something like this....

The core idea of the Haken Audio instruments (this one included) is quite different from other devices on the market. The important thing is to make the performer part of a tight timbre-feedback-loop; whatever is being measured must be measured quickly and accurately, and affect the fine-structure of the sound in a non-trivial but still musical way. That is different from "easy to play" or "ideal independent control dimensions" or "generic MPE controller" idea, and closer to the experience of acoustic instruments, where getting any sound out at all is a challenge. The sensing technology and its submillisecond effect on the timbre you hear is very different from what you are used to. If you are interested, check out the comparisons on this page: www.hakenaudio.com/mpe ... But also, let there be no misunderstanding: the ContinuuMini is not just a small version of the Continuum; we are very open about the challenges in playing a Mini; the idea of the Mini was to make this world available at a lower price point. Still, people that own a Continuum and a MIni (after some adjustment) get to like the Mini too, in its own right. Just like some difficult-to-play and more limited acoustic instruments can still be a joy to play.

I would very much like to buy an standalone EaganMatrix synth in a box, with a bit more DSP horsepower than the ContinuuMini. I'm not really a fan of the Continuum playing surface (either the full or the mini), but I love the expression I can now get playing the EaganMatrix in ContinuuMini from my Linnstrument. However, I often have to reduce the polyphony of the sounds , sometimes to just 2+, so that the ContinuuMini doesn't click or error. A nice big "EaganBox" with MIDI in and audio out would be fabulous.

Lonely thumbs... but maybe they could come with a second strip (mini twin) for the thumbs. ;)

Haken Continuum will be work with drum machines? in electronic music?
@HakenAudio5 жыл бұрын
People play percussion with EaganMatrix sound engine, for example this video uses one of the sounds also available in the ContinuuMini: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpqTaouNlLuSjMU .... You can control it from a Midi drum machine, but you won't get the variation you get when a human finger plays each note -- more variation for each note with finger drumming than from a drum machine. If you do use a drum machine, setup is easy if your drum machine supports MPE MIDI -- otherwise you need to figure out how to configure your drum machine properly (it may take some patience the first time you do this!)
