See what happens when you hire the wrong contractor. The homeowner is left paying thousands of dollars for inadequate work from a contractor. Don't let this happen to you. #fail

Wooden scaffolding ! The last time I saw that was in Agadir , Morocco in about1980. The whole edifice was tied together with rope. It actually looked fairly rigid and was 5 or 6 floors high and being used by plasterers . The wooden scaffolding in this clip looks less secure to my untrained eye.

That's nothing, in the 1970's I saw a high-rise building in downtown Hong Kong that was scaffolded from the ground to the roof with BAMBOO! The lashing holding it together appeared to be twisted up bread bags! Granted the bamboo was about 4" in diameter, but man, I was in shock when I saw it.

They use bamboo scaffolding to this day. There is plenty of videos on it. Even on buildings much taller than a couple of stories.

Tom Munro, Inspector you did fine brother. My volume wasn’t turned up all the way and I heard everything just fine and I’m over 50 with hearing problems, lol. Sounds like someone just wanted to complain about something. Keep the great videos coming brother, most of us really appreciate them!

That membrane should be protected up until the very end with cardboard at the very least. We usually temporarily cover with plywood to avoid damage from materials moving about, tools, men, ect.
@michaelledford47517 жыл бұрын
On the roofing you missed a serious issue that is code everywhere in USA and Canada for torch down roofing ,anywhere where asphalt roofing membrane comes in contact with metal edjing the metal drop edge ,gravel stop etc MUST be primed with an asphalt primer before installation, also the way they terminated that roof by torching the roofing membrane directly over the drip edge is wrong ,the roofing membrane must go to the edge of the roof ,then have a drip edge primed on both sides set into a solid head of roofing mastic and nailed down securing the membrane from blow offs ,then the primed drip edge must be 3 courses with mastic & rag ,or have a 12 inch strip torched over the drip edge which sandwiches the perimeter edge of the roof between w layers of membrane ,you cannot do the edge of a torch down roof like you would a pvc or tpo roof .
@TomMunroCHI7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael Ledford for your input. You’re right about all your details but, I made a video about the need to hire the right contractors so this kind of shoddy workmanship doesn’t happen to you. The whole project is a failure. Clearly.

Brown flashing over a black window. What code is that? 2012 requirement for flashing yet it's permitted as a remodel for your local governing jurisdiction. Regardless of plan detail they can be revised. Sometimes engineers copy and paste. Membranes are hard to call as it still is in phase. Seriously this video is picking apart a phase and the big argument is the scaffolding sucks. Edward I'm not sure if your a home inspector but Cease and Desist does not apply unless you are employed by the local governing jurisdiction.

Probably because they changed their name. Non-licensed contractors are good at getting unjust money and avoiding loosing it. This house am staying at for now was flipped by a shoddy contractor and only after time does the lipstick on the pig vanish. So glad not my house!

Wow. That is a LOT of good lumber being wasted to make unsafe staging. Were they allergic to renting steel pipe staging? Or is there a regional staging shortage?
@michaelledford47513 жыл бұрын
A few super important issues you missed on the torch down roofing ,#1 all metal MUST be primed on top & bottom using asphalt primer ,#2 the field sheet should be ran even with the fascia edge,then have a pre primed drip edge set in a bead of roofing mastic and nailed every 4 to 6 inches ,then a 6" wide strip of torch down is welded to the edge of the metal and extending atleast 4 inches on the roof membrane ,a wise contractor will leave the stripping material back a half inch from the edge of the metal,once the job is complete will then use a probe " ice pick " to search out any areas where the torch down material isnt properly welded to the metal and repair the loose spots with a plumbers torch ,lastly a full bead of roofing mastic in a caulk tube should be applied on the 1/2 " exposed metal to stripping connection and tooled in to completely seal the metal to membrane connection point .

I blame materials manufacturers the most...they seem more focused on creating new products to try and gain market share than they are content with selling existing product. A consequence of new product is new procedures for that product. There are so many choices for homeowners and homebuilders these days, it really can be overwhelming to everyone.

This is ridiculous. I built many homes on scaffolding like that. Nothing wrong with it. That's how they did it for decades. Too bad there's so many other problems. Trades never got passed down. Years ago a contractor would at least become a journeyman in a trade before he got a license.

Drip edge needs smooth underneath then drip edge needs to be nailed on correctly with enough nails as well as Asphalt primer on all metal that comes in contacts with torch down. And obviously the roofer did not have a clue because the membrane was hardly heated. BAD JOB!!! But what do I know I'm just a journeyman roofer...
@knotallthere663 жыл бұрын
Window trim I don’t get that one .....widow and door openings are not wrapped any more before installation so being that the window flange went it on plywood,osb .....planking is a separate application ...... then black waterproofing tape happens and the tyveck and tape happens ........if they pumped the window out of rough opening to account for vertical lath then that’s a different application so that metal pan did the inspector actually expect to see it on top of Finnish trim ?
