@@jonathansheehan3121 Not a matter of where he was born but how and where he chose to live his life, Sir. His life and his music was 100% Texas, and if you paid any attention at all, then you would understand instead of being pedantic.

I saw Jerry Jeff in the 70'S at a place called Dooleys in Tempe Arizona. He was so drunk he sang a couple songs then left the stage, I was pissed at the time but looking back it's now a great story!

This Vid is so funny. When Jerry Jeff changes his voice to do the "M O T H E R" words (mud flaps, oil on his hair, etc.) it cracks me up every time I watch it. And, the turkey gobble ...? This man has a BLAST doing his "work". Watching this vid, to me, is like a shot of B12. It dries me wild, no matter how many times I watch it. GREAT! Long live JJW, and his great friends.

When I first fell in love with JJ Walker's music, I was 32. I am now 52, and my chances to see him live or meet him grow dimmer. But it sure feels good to see the live performances, especially the Greune Hall ones. I spent 3 years of my life listening to this man every day and it has been a sweet, hard 24 hours of listening to him again. He always brought out the deepest emotions in me...

I don't think most people get the message Ray Wylie Hubbard was trying to convey when he first wrote this... Check out Hubbard's MusicFog version of "Screw You, We're from Texas", you'll see what I mean. He wrote the song after getting beat up in a cowboy bar in West Texas... Look up one of the live Hubbard versions of OATWRM for the full story

I put this song on my list of songs that could fit in with a Darren Shan story because I thought it would describe the acrimonious relationship Steve and Brenda had, and I thought it would also describe Tony Morris, Alan Morris' brother, because Tony has older men get him alcoholic drinks in bars, and he's also a bully like the man in the song is.

+jesse black I moved from California to Texas after getting out of the Marines in 1980, 25 years old and full of piss and vinegar. I wanted to see for myself what all of my Marine Corps brothers were talking about their home state of Texas. I worked the oil fields for 3 years and was introduced to Wild Turkey liquor, Lone Star and Shiner beer. I lived around La Grange, Texas. I ran into one of my Marine Corps brothers from Smithville, he recognized me while I was working on a construction job. Met my future ex-wife and the mother of children there. We used to go to Austin on the weekends, I loved that place. This song was my personal anthem. Just reminiscing.

Matt Sheldon, you have passed the bar and are inducted as a native Texan, no matter where you were born. La Grange is cool, haw haw haw haw.
@wm.a.billfisher14108 жыл бұрын
Well, Matthew's done good but I know of very few Texicans who will pass ANY bar... LaGrange, Broken Spoke or the Dew Drop Inn. Back when I was the Head Bouncer for awhile at the Little Bear Saloon up in Evergreen, Colorado in the 70's, I used to have to sometimes keep our Texican visitors a little more closely under control as our mile and a half higher altitude seemed to make them more conducive to the effects of their alcohol consumption. I wonder how my old friend from Red River, Ray Wiley Hubbard is doing these days... him with Three Faces West and we both were Mountain Tours Drivers for the Red River Tours, though Ray was out there a year before me. But I didn't have a Jeep named for me for running off a switchback and down 17' into a waterfall pool like Ray did. (I made certain to keep my Jeep full of tourists on the Middle Fork Trail... closed by the Forestry Service the year after I left). Fun times. Easier times. Mellow times and the Grandfather Times of Red Dirt Music.
