I have recently realized that with age (I am 63) some of my contrast has disappeared. My skin has actually darkened over the years, from very pale to light medium I color my hair a bit lighter than my natural medium dark color. My eyes are the same grey blue but my eyelashes and brows are paler (of course I wear mascara and brow pencil now.) So, now I think I am a low-medium contrast person. I have always loved high contrast in my clothes, and this explains why now those outfits make me look more harsh and accentuate my wrinkles, etc. Bumping up my contrast with makeup helps, but I can only go so far without again looking harsh. Dark lipstick is now a thing of the past, for example. It is time to switch to softer makeup colors, and less contrast in my outfits. Thanks for your input on this.

Thank you for this! I'm medium contrast and an autumn. I've never really thought about it, but looking back I was never comfortable in wearing high contrast outfits. Very informative. Thnx and cheers!

So I’m learning some new concepts about dressing myself. My pale skin, green eyes and mostly white hair would put me in a low contrast category. In my younger years i did have lots of contrast in my color choices. Today i still have that mindset, example… my new favorite sun dress is a black and white check pattern,1/4”. If i understand correctly. This is not my best choice for my coloring!? Black and white were always top choice in planning my wardrobe and have been using grey as a new basic addition. Recently have added some pale taupes to rusts. Have I made any errors with these choices ? Also sometimes i fancy a pop of color like a Colbert blue sweater set….

My daughter's high contrast - black hair and pale skin. I'm low contrast most of the year- lightish (photo bleached) brown hair, beigish skin and hazel eyes. She tends to need clothing colors that can compete with her coloring otherwise she looks drab. I tend to need colors that are as muted as my own coloring or I literally disappear. In winter, I'm more medium contrasted because my hair's darker and my skin's a bit lighter. My daughter would be lower contrast in the summer, but she uses sunscreen religiously.

I had dark brown hair, brown eyes and fsir skin. Now that I am older, i have grey hair, brown eyes and fair skin skin. Never looked good in pastels or super bright colors. Am I a medium contrast ? Help!

I was wondering about the black-grey-white photos and the opposites on the color wheel. Opposites on the color wheel do not appear distinct in black-and-white photos, but they definitely seem to play an important role. There is quite some contrast between my grey hair and my warm skin tone, but that doesn’t show in black and white photos. It does make a difference when chosing colors, though.

Ooh good question! It definitely makes a difference when choosing colors for sure, but this video is not talking about temperature contrast only about value contrast. so the lightness and darkness of a color not the warmth or coolness of the color. It’s only one of the things to look but temperature at is going to be important as well.

Oh I think this has finally helped me figure out my contrast. Thank you so much. I have very light skin, my hair colour is around the same as yours. The thing that threw me off was that my eyes aren't brown, they're a greeny blue but they're quite dark and they have a dark ring around the iris. So according to the grey scale you showed, I'm high contrast.

Can a high contrast wear monochromatic? I’m very high contrast and love the monochromatic look. Thank you.
@NadaManley Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Contrast refers to when you pair two different colors, but when colors are the same anyone can do that. :)

Thank you, this was very interesting, something I have never thought about before. It explains why I don't like high contrast colours, because I am more low contrast with my pale skin and silver hair. Thank you!

I’m medium-high contrast, depending on the level of tan (season)! Is it true, based on your video, our contrast will change with the season? I tan in summer ☺️❤

This is new material for me, my hair color is changing….from black to salt and pepper….and silver at some point maybe. So I have medium skin and gray would medium as well, would wearing more gray toned clothes be better versus black?
@NadaManley Жыл бұрын
Great question! Since you are going to block her to salt and pepper here, you could probably wear a black and gray both very successfully. What you’ll probably want to avoid is lighter colors that could wash you out.

Hi Nada. You explained this confusing topic well. I have a low contrast colouring like Jennifer Aniston. I thought I was a Soft muted blended contrast . What is the difference between that a low contrast?
@NadaManley4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sherry! Most women with SOFT Coloring are low contrast, and those terms (Soft, Muted, and Blended) have all been used interchangeably with low contrast. Low contrast is just another term for almost the same thing. :)
@lynnstendahl25114 жыл бұрын
I am low contrast. Blue eyes, white/platinum hair, and light skin. So I should be wearing low contrast colors. There is no give on this? So I would be in the blue range of color?
@NadaManley4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynn! There is actually a lot of give on this! It's really just one of a few things I take into account. You can wear low to medium contrast easily, so you are not just limited to low. If you love a high contrast printed piece, it will be easier if you wear it away from the face. :) If you check the blog post in the description box I go into more detail :)

Your presentation was very interesting and informative. However, I am still not sure what's range my coloring falls in. I have medium to dark auburn brown hair, blue eyes and light golden skin. Please let me know what you think if possible? Thank you, Diane

Diane, you are gorgeous! Omygoodness. I think you have medium to high contrast coloring. A Clear in the system I use. You can do more high contrast patterns like black and white together. :) Hope that helps!
