@@razalasener9514 I can tell you more. If Alan Wake 2 gets to release, its plot twist will be how the events of Alan Wake were already scripted by Thomas Zane, proving that Alan Wake is, indeed, as "irreal" as Jesse Fade is for himself (except everyone is brought to life by the Dark Presence).

The "Alien force mimicking human intelligence", "what can't be trasnlated, translated" is the Hiss. Alan did not create it, Alan was not the one that let it through, but he was the one who gave it the "translation" in the prime reality, i.e. aspects of its manifestation, such as the "hiss incantation" we hear, which are HIS phrases. Another point I want to mention, after playing AW2 base game and Control's AWE DLC: Wake used Alice as a conduit. He started by using darkness to manifest himself near her and haunt her. She then went to the FBC. The second connection was made when Alice was in close proximity to "the thing" and it went beserk, while both were in the oldest house. These were then enough connections for Wake to be able to change aspects of the oldest house. Slowly but steadily Wake made more and more story connections there, so that he could make a bigger impact. It is clear that Wake connected forcefully to a story that already existed, in order to involve the FBC, and, most importantly, Jesse, into HIS escape story / fight. Whatever takes place after the Alan Wake II base game, i.e. the DLCs and NG+ will clear this up even further. It is certain that Jesse will play a major role in his escape further down the line. It is also clear that the Hiss Invasion, though not triggered by Alan himself directly, was "changed" just enough so that Jesse would a) become a more powerful parautilitarian and b) come to investigate Wake's case. He did all this in order to make even more connections so that his whole story becomes true in the end, and he manages to truly escape. The meddling of the Dark Presence in all this is also important. Mr. Scratch, as in Alan's double, was discorporated in American Nightmare. However, the Dark Presence tried to meddle in Alan's writing, trying to make Alan Himself be its vessel, and it could do so because of his unstable personality and his temper. Scratch is now Alan himself, WHEN he becomes its vessel. The entire AW2 game plot is based on that premise. Alan has forgotten most of the connections he has made due to his connection to Scratch/DP, and is piecing everything together again and again as he fights that parasite in his head. I expect that Jesse's story will be affected by Alan's writing even more moving forward, and that Alan will "use" her as the hero, AFTER he has moved further outward in his "spiral", since now he has found a way to successfully fight the dark presence out of his head, with a LOT of help and sacrifice from Saga, who is another parautilitarian (and probably the dauther of another very important character in the RCU, Mr. Door). That is why Jesse is not yet involved in his story fully. The eluding goal Alan has put is for him and Jesse to fight the dark presence on their own terms and win. That is the only way HE can have a good ending. The only parautilitarian who is shown to be able to vanquish an extradimensional entity from the prime reality up until this point is Jesse. Also, Jesse is sensitive to visitation, so it makes sense for her to be the ultimate hero... Alan definitely helps mold her into that. This is, however, very diffrerent from the theory that Alan Wake wrote Control. That is simply not the case, Alan is not that powerful. Alan did nudge aspects of it in different directions though. It would be cheap of Remedy to retcon it so that "Control is Alan's fanfic" theory becomes true.

Basically the entire plot of Control had been written from the Dark Place by Alan Wake, Sam Lake’s alter ego.

Came to this video after watching the Alan Wake 2 trailer. Bunch of people “reducing” control to “Alan Wake wrote this”. It’s not so simple. Before Alan, the Asgard boys had already written a song about the town of Ordinary and the projector. That’s the nature of the lake in Alan Wake: creative types seem to be able to interact with it, and whatever they create takes shape. There is even a bit of a meta element in Alan Wake, where one of the guys in Hartman’s clinic talks about a game that he is prototyping/making. If you look at the visual sketches he has for the game, it’s clear that the guy is working on the Alan Wake video game. Now I don’t take this for more than an Easter egg, but what I am trying to say is that to some extent the lake makes things happen based on those creations, but at the same time I think it’s a bit of a chicken egg situation. Like, the Asgard boys wouldn’t write a song about a town called Ordinary if it didn’t exist to begin with. (Or maybe they would, but then nothing would happen). Anyways, that’s my personal take, but what is not personal is that it wasn’t just Alan that wrote Jesse’s story like some comments imply.

I mean, there is at least one hotline message from Alan which seems to imply that he wrote about the hiss and Jesse coming into the bureau to stop it so at the very least he influenced how some things happened

@@legendlalo At this point you don’t need to speculate anymore. Alan Wake 2 provides ample explanation for how Alan Wake influences the world. And the game explicitly states you can’t just create someone out of thin air. You need some foundation that the Dark Place then modifies through art. Jesse does not exist because of Alan, just like Saga doesn’t. However, Alan can write stuff that affects their lives. Also, Alan Wake has visions of things that he ends up writing about. And these things already exist to begin with. Alan simply becomes aware of them, then starts adding stuff to the manuscripts. At this point, it can have an influence on reality, but even then, it’s not guaranteed.

Did they just tease continuation to Alan Wake in the final lines? There was an alarm coming from cauldron lake, agent estevez on site, and Alan heard saying; it's happening again, a return. To me this sounds like Remedy implying very strongly return to cauldron lake with agent Estevez, and to the return of the Alan Wake story. The AWE expansion already combines the universe of control with Wake. According to this Alan and Zane are collaborating in a movie that is actually the reality of the gamer. Wake is trapped in his own film that Zane is director of. That's how Wake could potentially write himself out of it. Zane gets to read the manuscript as the director and can influence Wake based on the knowledge of the writing. However Zane can't know the future beyond what Wake is writing, so he is trying to influence Wake. I think Zane is actually the dark presence, a manipulating force using Wake to control the direction of the film story. Zane is the director, the board, the hiss the top dog, in charge of the film that is unfolding and the player is trapped in the film whatever direction it's going. Very interesting and pretty unique stuff for games. Basically this is Sam Lakes idea of toying with the player. Creating a pseudo universe that mimics reality in the sense that Alan is actually a caricature of Sam Lake, who is writing the story the player is trapped into when playing the games. The director or Zane is a caricature of Remedy or maybe even the publisher, influencing Sam's creativity freedoms and his writing, being trapped in a way in modern game development and freedom of a writer. It's brilliant! I'm not sure but I may be onto something here, logically speaking.

I think you're overthinking some stuff. Alan knows he can't just write himself out of the dark place by writing "and Alan popped out lmao". He explains that many small streams make up a mighty river. He wrote what happened in Ordinary, the FBC and the Hiss threat, as a means to an end: causing an event in Bright Falls and breaking out of the Dark Place.

That room didn’t look like anywhere in the cabin. What is it and how did wake end up in it? Also didn’t Thomas Zane enter the lake wearing a diving suit? Why would it be a film character? And I thought wake dealt with scratch in American Nightmare.

If I remember correctly there are actually posters in American Nightmare's projector room with posters of Zane on the wall in the Diving suit, that may be what is being referenced. Also Alan never escaped in American Nightmare and given Alan is still reported as missing we can assume Mr. Scratch wasn't able to leave the Dark Place either. He's still around and in contact with Zane at some level, which to me suggests he and Zane were possibly playing roles assigned to them by Alan in Alan Wake and American Nightmare. Zane was definitely a poet though, Emil Hartman knew him as one, Jesse also read his poetry. The poetry was contained in a shoebox, which was the loophole Zane left, so he could give Alan the clicker. Alan also referenced reading Zane's work from a shoebox which influenced the manuscript he was writing for Departure in Alan Wake. It could be that he's altered himself or is working collaboratively with Alan on a film to escape the Dark Place now. Since they may have had some success or come close to escape in American Nightmare. Alternatively it could be an entity like Mr. Scratch impersonating Zane and trying to trick Alan into helping him.

@@addmen96 I am very curious where they go with that storyline. What happened to Darling, a resolution to Wake, maybe revisiting the home reality of Polaris and the Hiss, or more slides for the projector? So many open ended possibilities. Very clever of them to leave themselves with such creative freedom.

When Thomas Zane wrote himself out of reality the only Tom Zane left in the real world was a film maker. Could this be Mr. Scratch? Did he haunt Zane in the same way he haunts Wake?

It appears that Thomas Zane wrote Alan Wake The American Nightmare? Or is that not canon anymore because they speak like his doppelganger still exists? Wake says he got out maybe that is from the AM? We need more answers in the next game, come on Remedy. I don't have 1 interpretation damn it!

American Nightmare happened only in Alan's mind, because he failed to create a good way to escape, so it didn't work.

I've read a post on Reddit, saying that in the scene with Thomas Zane and Alan Wake, there's a part where Thomas Zane says "I didn't write your story", Alan Wake mentions the page in the shoebox with the Clicker, and Thomas Zane replies "I did that because I had to". But this video doesn't show that part, and I didn't see it either when I played AWE. Is that part really in the game?

Fun fact: There are parts in the cutscenes where Alan wake talks but his mouth does not move....signaling (pun intended) thomas zane is talking through him. The cutscene I have watched a dozen times and there's so many cool little details that make it hard to understand what is happening (utter brilliance)...also bitter irony thomas zane wrote Alan to life to help himself escape, and now alan did it with Jesse....I hope in his "Return" that there is a better plan in place. Alan Wake has got to make it!

It's because Alan wrote Zane into Departure as a character and plot device to escape Cauldron Lake after he read his poems when held captive by the Dark prescence. Zane is a meta character/narrator, he has to help Wake because that's how Wake wrote him to be.

It's complicated, he influenced some plot points to get Jesse to participate in the plot with the FBC, and he definitely encouraged the Hiss. Guess we'll find out in Alan Wake 2 what the Dark Presence is all about.
