Controlling your ceiling fan through your home automation system has been difficult using traditional smart switches or other DIY options. The best method that I've found is using a RF wifi hub connected to Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, etc. This video shows the setup and operation of the BOND by Olibra. It uses IR and RF to "talk" to various devices.

Thank you soo much for the virtual switch info! I purchased this device on black friday to run two fans on two different floors in my home. Just a heads up bond just released a beta for fireplace remotes. I didn't have one so I bought a skyteck on Amazon. Bond had no trouble finding it. With your info I should now be able to get my fans and fireplace on my wall mounted tablets.

This is almost what I was looking for. Seems perfect except it’s $100! For $50 extra I can buy a Hunter fan that can do the same thing but with a new fan

Did you try holding the dimmer buttons like you do on the remote that comes with the fan?

Again another great video. But, alas I have a question. I am building a new home. There will be a total of 5 fans that I will install. There will be just a box in the ceiling so that I can mount them and there will also be a wall switch with a slide to set the fan speed. No attached lights to the fan. I would like to see a cost analysis from your standpoint comparing two setups. One using the BOND device and appropriate "remote controlled fan" vs aq normal fan with a zwave or similar switch. Which system might be more cost effective. Thanks so much

the RM pro works fine for controlling RF devices including ceiling fans wit the RM plugin app also for controlling TV's and it is much cheaper i think i paid $25 for mine on ebay the real problem comes with the voice assistants themselves when you want to control multiple devices with the same command ,alexa now allows you to group your echo devices into rooms so you can group an echo with your lights and then instead of saying kitchen lights on or bedroom lights on if you are speaking to the echo device that is in the group whos lights you want to control you can simply say "lights " and it will by default know you mean the right room , unfortunately it ends there it will not work with any other commands ,not even with lights individually either if i tell the bedroom dot to switch of the table lamp instead by saying "alexa table lamp off" instead of "alexa bedroom table lamp off" where the device is named "bedroom table lamp" and where you have another device in another room group named like "living room table lamp" it will still say "there are multiple devices by that name which one do you want" not so smart at all it makes it difficult controlling things like TV's and ceiling fans if you multiple devices in multiple roms ,you can not use the more natural syntax of just saying ceiling fan on high , ceiling fan on low" you have to name the devices like living room ceiling fan high , bedroom ceiling low , then if you have more than one bedroom it gets eve worse alexa master bedroom ceiling fan on , or alexa second bedroom ceiling fan on high if they would just make it so it would control the device of the room you are in by default it would make the syntax so much simpler of course with google home it is even worse their AI is a completely worthless piece of shit even if you name the devices bedroom ceiling fan and living room ceiling fan it you will not be able to control them individually it will control them all at once , google smart home lets you put the GH devices into rooms too but it serves absolutely no purpose at all if you gruop a GH into a room with say 2 lights and you ask that specif GH to turn on the lights it will switch on every light it has access to instead of knowing you only want the ones grouped in with it same goes for dimming you can not dim one light it just dims them all if they have any sort of similar name , for instance bedroom floor lamp and bedroom table lamp if i ask it to dim either one it dims both instead their AI just sucks and since it is google you know that not only will it not be fixed but you be assured they will make some even more retarded changes that somehow make it even worse

Since mid-summer 2021, there has been an Sonoff iFan04-L which is the US version with the proper Caps for a 110-120 volt fan. This in fan unit can be linked with Alexa and Google Assistant. P.S. Since Samsung grabbed “SmartThings” it’s become garbage.

Love my bond. Just wish I could control more than 6 fans cause I have 8 at home. Also, my 9 speed fan’s remote is not supported. Support said its coming in about 6 months.

Would be cool to see this work on a smart switch with scene capability. Wondering if you could tie this to something like Inovelli with a double tap to turn the fan on or off.
@TaylorTech

Yes! That would work especially with an inovelli switch. Have you seen this video I posted last week? I set up the inovelli scenes in a unique way in it. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqLJqH2sYt5rmbM

One thing the switches on the RF Xmitter DO NOT CHANGE THE FREQUENCY, they simply send a code that matches the code set in the fan.
@oldedwardian1778

How does the Bond discriminate between the fans that may be the same model and the same remote controller. If you have a fan in the living room that is the exact same model as a fan upstairs how does bond know which one to control. Not all RF remotes have the dip switches that you referred to in th evidence.

You should do a review on the Sonoff ifan02. Looks promising.
@oldedwardian1778

I have the Ifan02 and have NEVER been able to get it to work. I have many Sonoff WiFi switches and am therefore very familiar with using them. Getting the Ifan02 to even PAIR is an achievement, however even after that the Ifan02 shows upas OFFLINE in the app. Then there is the problem with INSTALLING THE SWITCH. The space in the base of the fan for the Ifan02 is TOO SMALL, in other words the Ifan02 is TOO THICK to fit into the space where ALL OTHER RF CONTROLLERS FIT. So I cannot even use the Ifan02 as an ordinary RF controller. Sonoff tech. Support is USELESS. There is supposed to be an Ifan03 which is described as MORE RELIABLE than the 02. In the mean time stay away from the IFAN02

also garage door openers will never work with this ,at least not any ones made in the last 100 years ,because most have rolling codes these RF universal remote hubs can not deal with rolling codes , but you can just buy a cheap quiachip 433mhz RF relay form ebay or aliexpress and key for remote and hook it in parallel with your garage door doorbell button of course you will not have state reporting or even a separate FQ for on and off unless you get one with 2 relays or buy 2 single relays and a add a switch so that only one works when the door is open and the other only works when it is closed i have mine with one relay one FQ right now but i am waiting on a second relay and then i will try to setup up a 3 position switch with a spring in it activated by the trolley so i can have a seperate FQ for open and close

Great video. My only thought was can/will this get out of sync if someone used the original remote to control the fan & light instead of using your voice or the app. Just wondering if there is a way to keep things in sync.
@TaylorTech
@TaylorTech 6 жыл бұрын
No it won't get out of sync, because it's stateless. It just simply sends commands. Doesn't show you what state it's currently in.

Has anyone ever been able to get the Sonoff Ifan02 to work, I have given up. This seems like a good alternative but a bit pricey at $100 plus needing a conventional RF remote as well.
