Crashing a Pro-Stock motorcycle is a bit more sketchy than a car with a full cage.. A car breaking loose from a moist track is also a little easier to handle.

The CONTROVERSEY in pro stock motorcycle is the 160 cid twin vs the 113 cid inline 4. Bullshit advantage to the twins but nobody talks about that.

Pro stock in NHRA is so messed up because it’s the only Pro class that that one brand gets a rediculous displacement advantage over another brand. In the Pro class all motors should be the same size! i guess popularity overrides the difference between right and wrong.

My rain delay story thankfully was at a track that was well maintained and had excellent track crew personal and it wound up working out. I was a struggling Pro ET racer who did everything myself, built everything but the torque converter and transmission out of my garage at home. I had been out of drag racing for a lot of years when I decided to try it again. Had a steep learning curve but finally after 2 years of hard work in the first couple of months of my 3rd year back I happened to hit on a combo my car really liked, it seemed no matter what the weather conditions were the car just kept getting better and better with each pass and so predictable. Anyway at an early season bigger race on the schedule we were on a roll I was cutting great lights and car was responding as usual, the longer we ran it the faster it got. I was starting to take little bits out of it to keep it's consistent behaviour. I finally broke the curse and made it to the finals and it was getting late on a Sunday and the sky's opened up and it poured rain right before our final ! They tried talking us all into just splitting the pot and going home but the Super Pro guys and myself said no.. We want to try and run it off. I was very confident in my car and ability so we waited and the track crew prepped and dried the track and they let us inspect the track and shut down area before we ran. Us Pro ET guys went first and my opponent who had been the guy to beat every week was all of a sudden putting up a number that was significantly lower than mine when all day he had been slower than me but not by this much so was he hurt or was he playing games.?..then i remembered what Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins had said once at Bandamiere in Colorado when several of us young guys were talking to him between classes he told us all "don't worry about the other guy, race the track and run your car and you will win way more than you loose!" So we didn't worry about it and I put all my tune back in the car and put up the number I was confident it would run and lined up and let the big dog eat....my opponent by virtue of a lot slower number got to leave first and out of the outside edge of my focus on the tree I noticed he looked like he only made it about 30' and obviously broke something ....well I didn't flinch and cut a .007 light and dropped the hammer, the car squatted and I was gone like a launching rocket....ran almost dead on my number so my opponent would of had to be perfect to have beat me anyway and I won my first race in nearly 20 years. I have gone on and won many more since then but never forgot the longest day It ever took me to win a race. Turned out my opponent had hurt his car in his last round to get to the finals and it was terminal and couldn't be fixed without tearing it clear down (I think he hurt a lifter, cam lobe and rocker arm/Push rod. They replaced what they could and put up a slower number so he might could get me to jump and go red trying to run him down with such a big advantage....he was hoping it would hold together long enough to make the 1/4 mile stripe and maybe beat me but I called his bluff and ran my race) thank God for Bill Jenkins words of wisdom

A lot of the riders wanted to run the only ones that really didn’t wanna run at all were the women almost all the men wanted to run but they were just being nice and putting on that good racer NHRA persona if it’s unsafe for bikes why can the fuel cars run with a wet shutdown area the whole thing shoulda been canceled IMO, back in the day when I raced we had a notebook with tracks and carburetor adjustments etc that had to be made to run at that track back in the analog days data logging was way different like we data logged with Camcorder and would watch the run back in slow motion, and then the good ole pen and paper in 60’s-80’s we had no ideal what a laptop was and never ran ECU’s of any kind, no sensors

It's a hard call to scrap a session, but you have to respect the NHRA's decision based on potential safety.. I wonder if a " damp" front tyre could be mandated for when the nhra decide it's needed due to conditions. I mean a front tyre which doesn't give the last 1000th of a second in ET ,but has a softer compound and a little tread to aid stopping. Then the " mist " rule could kick in ,mandate the front tyre swap and any teams that needed a run for data or feel could still do a pass and the spectators get there monies worth 🤔

@@ericalger5003 It is in the air, were they going to inflate a bubble and stop it form being in the air?? If it was just to dry the track then cool beans, but the fact that the bikes, visors and cloths themself got dew/condensation on them is a bit more than just a track being wet.. There such thing as dew piont, (go read up about that) humidity, sun setting, temps dropping, now playing against mother nature is not always the smartest aspect, just watch some no prep evening races and watch what happens when they decide to race a track that has reach dew piont and gone cold.. If they really want to race, they should all become street outlaws on bikes, how much fun would that be.. I must say, I never seem a so many complaining racers and supporters, These guys and you can learn from no prep/street racing, there comes a time when they call it, split the pot and go home to race another day or come back in the morning to finish off..

Riders should have the option to run. If you don’t want to run then don’t run. NHRA doesn’t help riders make it to the track. They don’t help build the bikes or ride them.

@@cycledrag The fuel teams have huge expenses and sponsors that are barely hanging in there. If they lost a run because of pro stock motorcycle... the poo would hit the fan. Another item is that most of todays fans only show up for fuel racing. I go for PSM and PSC. Notice how PSM and PSC only run selected events now? It's a fuel show. If the fans didn't get to see 2 fuel classes they would have complained about wasting time watching those dumb bikes run down the track. If the track isn't safe for a 200 MPH motorcycle, it's really not safe for a 300+ MPH fuel car. But they ran.

@@irieman442 well that’s not all fairly true sir -if one wants to keep it honest. Though a few hundred mph faster, the four wheelers have substantially more aerodynamic down force on much wider tire to surface contact, the same braking power as on any hot dry day and most importantly of all a roll cage. It’s no wonder two wheelers have less legal privileges in sever conditions on taxed roadways and thoroughfares.
@Peanutdenver

@@marvinjgerald6007 You nailed it...It's two completely different animals when facing weather conditions on a bike vs in a car. Even when conditions are perfect a rider doesn't have the luxury of a cage to protect them when a run goes tits up.
