I have experience with a religious convention and a anime convention. I was leaving the hotel for smoothies and I was with friends. A photo was being taken in front and I didn't realize this but this was atheism convention. They asked us to join their photo. It was one of the best moments I have ever had a con because they were very nice and complimented my cosplay. It sucks about katsucon vs BBYO.

Blocking off access coridors and exits is a HUGE safety violation. I'm surprised that nobody reported them to the fire marshal or at the very least threatened to do so.

Cosplayers shouldn't swear at the jewish peeps, but Judaism also teaches people to love everybody so... both sides are at fault and behaved badly. If the organisers knew they can't keep both cons at bay, thy should 've just made them one day apart. Any religious group together with any other groups is never a good mix. In anything.

Max Park The people at the Jewish con aren't at fault that some areas were closed. They have no say over it. Most likely the ones who closed places down were the people organising the con.

+Alsy I've never been to a con where important con rooms and ELEVATORS were closed off. but it does make sense that religious leaders would try to prevent their youth from mingling with "weirdos" and "strange influences"

I once attended a Supernatural (occult paranormal tv show) convention sharing a large convention center with two Christian events and one Muslim event (or maybe one Christian, one Muslim, one Sikh? three events anyway). It was fine! I think they kept us on different floors, though, and all four events were small. I did see the clergy people in the hallways sometimes, though, and we were all very friendly :)

I remember Katsu 2013 very well. The two groups did clash many times over the weekend. The BBYO kids and adults were mostly to blame. During the con I was a Gotham Police Officer for a day. A very convincing cosplay. I got into an elevator and saw two older Jewish men. They looked over at me and one of them asked "Hey Officer, are you here to control the freaks?" I just looked at him and nodded slightly to avoid any kind of argument. I do remember many of those kids being loud, angry and abusive towards the cosplayers

Nice stories, The whole religious con issue was interesting; I think it's pretty stupid that they closed off public areas. I've never heard of a con war but, I guess they can happen. I'm glad "Jonathan" got what he deserved in the end.

NZO MV Probably not that bad if you were already wearing something that at least offered some winter protection. I on the other hand, as well as many many cosplayers, was wearing a costume I would wear outside on a hot day, not in the middle of february. Nearly got frostbite that day! As for this next year, Im not sure. Might skip it and save the money for Otakon.

NZO MV Im from the NorthEast corridor in the US so cold winters are nothing new to me. However you dont wear summer attire in winter and expect to be just fine. :/ I don't know the exact temperature, but I heard the wind-chill was making it worse. Hope I dont experience that again. >.< Anyway, Ive never been to Otakon, but I do know its one of the BIG cons in the States. Its been in Baltimore Maryland, but its moving to D.C. for 2017, which Im excited about.

This is one reason why I believe children under 12 shouldn't go to anime convention. Other reason includes anime con generally caters to young adults, people drink at night, and finally I unfair for adults who are there to unwind to have watch their mouth when a kid is around.( even though myself don't cuss.)

+robin hetalia ....why though? anime isnt age restricted, and making things kid appropriate shouldnt be "unfair" you know. even if people do drink at night, kids 12 and under 99% arent going to be hanging around past 6, 7 at the latest

I have a child and she's younger then twelve she can't even walk yet but she loves being in her stroller so it should be ok if the child knows what to do and not to do if there older kids come to these 24/7 because some parents might not have babysitters so there child has to come with them

Ya know, sometimes I think that those "other conventions" that "just so happen" to be the same weekend as a con we'd normally attend (anime, comic, etc.), do it on purpose. Almost NEVER are they the same one each year. With how often it happens, I have no doubt in my mind that they purposely schedule it the same weekend. You know they have to OK it with the hotel or venue. In order to have their thing in the venue, they need to make sure it's not interfering with other things that will cause a problem. They hear that there's another convention that's that same weekend, as most cons know the last day , which weekend the following year it'll be on, so the entire year they already have the weekend set. So the hotel will tell these people "there's this also going on" and instead of "oh ok, maybe next weekend then", no they instead decide, even knowing they won't like having to share with this event they are not going to like, they instead decide to stay that weekend..You can't tell me they don't have a reason to not change their event date..
