Convergence - an intuitive composition process which vaguely aims toward increasing clarity and a sense of 'directionality' and flow.
A process where ideas, intuition, imagination and seemingly infinite possibilities slowly converge into an expressive form. Paradoxically, as ideas and impressions converge toward an 'answer', new expansive possibilities and questions become 'visible', and the process continues in unforeseen directions...
This process demonstrates a sense of Leonardo da Vinci's observation that art is never finished, only abandoned. And an intuition of the fixed art 'object' as a limited, expressive intimation of a profound, inexpressible creative 'process'.
In practicing the creative process, a sense emerges of greater meaning and synchronicity in the joys and tragedies of life. Convergence is an enduring mystery...

Does anyone else get ASMR from this? As a lifelong musician, I can honestly say that your compositions are the most beautifully complex works I've ever heard!!! Loving the polychromaticism!!!!

The progressions remind me of Holdsworth synthaxe compositions. The polychromatics seem to enhance the colour even further.

I have perfect pitch, and often times listening to normal music is dull and uninteresting as I hear the same thing every time. Your music is a challenge to interpret for me and that makes it so much more interesting. Thank you so much for making these videos, they intrigue me to no end.

I know it takes a lot of training and skill to play a new interment. If you are able, I would love for you to perform the PolyChromatic piece of music with an updated sound library-something like native instruments Orchestra SYMPHONY SERIES, or Spectrasonics Omnisphere.

It's weird. I have no issues picking apart the pitches. What gets me is the weird way new tones jump in some times. Others build up more gradually into the piece while others jump in jarringly. Do they have a different form than the others? Am I catching dissonance in the first few seconds until their compliment tone shows up?

Absolutely mesmerising! Also quick question, are your semitones divided equally for the different colours?
@dolomuse
@dolomuse 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, for now I am using edo (equal divisions of the octave) pitch-palettes. But pitch-colors in the polychromatic system aren't absolutely defined, so they can be extended to any conceivable pitch division scheme (unequal divisions, mathematically derived like MOS/ moments of symmetry, hybrid scales, etc.).

what kind of music theory goes into this music? i watched your video "intro to polychomatic music" and im curious to learn more, this kind of music fascinates me and i would like to learn and maybe try to develop the music theory for it.
@dolomuse
@dolomuse 7 жыл бұрын
That would be great! The polychromatic system is new and although it starts from a framework of chromatic music theory, it quickly extends in many uncharted directions. I am not sure of the process involved in creating new models of music theory. It seems like many aspects are developed from intuitive compositional examples which serve as the basis for analysis and formulation of new theoretical perspectives.

So for 72 Pitches per octave, what color system do you use? what is the order of flattest to sharpest, and which color is the standard pitch
@dolomuse
@dolomuse 7 жыл бұрын
I use the basic color spectrum and intuitively associate pitch-color from (infra/flat-ish) red, orange, yellow, green, blue, (ultra/sharp-ish) violet. The standard, or reference pitches are programmed to yellow - because this yellow seems to be uniquely differentiated within the color series, to my eyes (maybe because it is closest to white?). So, with A yellow as a global reference pitch (440Hz or whatever): C orange and C red would be progressively flatter tunings of C yellow; and C green, C blue, and C violet would be progressively sharper tunings of C yellow.
@al3ph35
@al3ph35 7 жыл бұрын
so C violet is one pitch down from C# red. Is there any way to achieve a perfect 5th in 72 edo?
@dominiquemanchon9914

@@al3ph35 No. 72edo has the same fifth (42 1/12 tones) than our equal 12-notes temperament (7 half tones). But the major third in 72edo (23 1/12 tones) is very close to pure. The harmonics 7 and 11 are also well approximated, No13 is a bit less accurate but still acceptable.

The Microzone controller has enough key-switches to support up to 72 pitches per octave. The Tonal Plexus controller can support much higher levels of pitch resolution, but the key-switches on mine have reached the end of their lifespan and are progressively failing. Unfortunately, the Tonal Plexus is no longer being made.
