For me it's peace and Contentment. One don't need much to be contented in life. Sometimes the less we have, the better. Just having basics should suffice ☺️ There are some people who have and can buy anything their heart desires but I feel like.......... The more we have, the more we want. The more we want, the less contented we become. What a great interview Ven Nick. Thank you once again for sharing ✌🏻

@@claudiacorsetti4320 What helped me was Thich Nath Hanh's advice. Don't try to suppress your thoughts, just acknowledge them and let them pass. My best wishes for Pete, and thanks to him for sharing his thoughts and experiences with us! And what a wonderful answer you gave him at the end, Nick, in each and every aspect. What resonated most with me was, that I want to learn to respond in a way like this way to people who turn to me asking for my advice: to first of all appreciate this person, and to state this person‘s value and what is special about that person, and what good that one brings to other people - and to communicate my advice from this basis ongoing. It was like a blessing for Pete and really impressed me. And I think I could see in Pete‘s face what a gift your reply was to him and that he was moved to receive this appreciation. I was moved, too.

I struggle too with the storylines! Something that helped me was to learn about my nervous system, and learn that these stories we tell ourselves, start out as a nervous system state. We experience something and then it becomes a story, so if I'm feeling safe and connected it becomes one story, if I'm feeling agitated it's another story, and if I'm feeling blue it's another story. So following that, this story I'm telling myself can't possibly be objective. My experience is real and it matters and I can learn something from it, and I need to make sure not to be dismissive of it (which is an issue for me), but I can acknowledge the fear without buying into the story itself. This took a while, and it was through therapy not Buddhism, but honestly the two are similar :)

Since my teenage I wanted to be a Buddhist monk. I don’t know why but I always felt gravitated towards Buddhism. In fact my mother also told an incident, when I was 1.5 or 2 years old and she took me to a Buddhist monastery just for a stroll or something and I lied down in front of the statue of Buddha on my stomach. No body taught me that but I did it. So basically I was always inclined towards Buddhism. I don’t fortunately or unfortunately I couldn’t become a monk because of my family responsibilities, but I wish I could. I also think that may be someday later in my life I will become a monk. Good evening, Venerable Nick and Venerable Pete; many blessings to you both. I really don't mean to sound like a wet blanket, but I have a ton of nuts-and-bolts questions about joining an intentional community such as a monastery. I know plane rides from the States are long and expensive; surely you can't just hop on a plane and fly to the other side of the world and join a monastery, can you? What kind of financial preparations do you make prior to joining? Do you have to sign over all your assets to the monastery or can you keep your US accounts open 'just in case' you need to fly back for whatever reason? Are you allowed any spending money (for small personal things or gifts to friends/family back home)? who pays for postage? Who covers your health care, prescriptions or eye exams/glasses? I know you get food during alms rounds, but what if you have food allergies and cannot eat what the lay people have offered? Is it rude to not accept their offering? What if you are a diabetic? Are you allowed any 'down time' to catch a movie or go to a museum, or do you have to 'monk' 24/7? Are you in prayer or meditation ALL DAY??? Do you ever get to 'play'? Sorry for the myriad questions, but a monastic life fascinates me. Part of me would love to do this but I have been told there are age limits to novices and that I am too old. That, and I cannot sleep on a hard floor or I would never get up the next day...thanks in advance and well done to you both!!

Definitely the inner chatter and the things I tell myself that simply isn’t true and doesn’t correspond with the actual truth of what’s going on around me. PS. Great video, thanks Nick

This was a great collaboration!!! It's nice to hear the perspective of a brand new monk 🤓...Luang Pi Pete I believe has a beautiful journey ahead of him... I wish him well 🙏🏻 I'm not sure why but the answer you gave at the end Ven. Nick kind of moved me to tears... It was very heartfelt...🙏🏻☮️🙏🏻

I wish you both peace, health and happiness this year. Thank you for sharing your journey with the world. The part that jumped out at me is the true joy thru laughter. I watch a lot of plum village talks and they laugh/joke a lot while teaching and found that interesting. I grew up catholic-teachings were based on fear. (So was the catholic nursing school and then a catholic college for a master’s degree)You both have helped me see the spiritual world from a new perspective. I hope that makes sense.

This is beyond inspiring. Amazing! The bit about cleaning toilets resonated deep in me (clean surroundings = clean mind). Also, when I do humble tasks, I forget the "self". I love you both, Nick and Pete. Peace and enlightenment.
