I wonder why SA government does not consult President Mbeki on EDRC crisis. He knows the war in DRC congo better than congo itself. As long root causes of the crises are not addressed as per Mbeki understanding, the crise will be recycling times and times.

I love Ntate Thabo. But, the ghost of Polokwane haunts him and the reimagining of the Polokwane era and beyond can’t fix his legacy. Leadership is about owning up to your shortcomings and he struggles with that so hard😭

@@ntombifuthidlamini3372 Polokwane 2008 was an ANC conference where Former President Mbeki was running for a 3rd term as ANC president and lost to Former President Jacob Zuma for the leadership of the ANC at the time. The conference resulted in two factions within the ANC that persists until today. It is one of those moments in SA politics that defined the democratic government as the ANC was fighting for national power whilst managing a power struggle within the ANC itself, or so we have been told🙆🏾 Basically, decisions of 80-year-olds are defining the future of children born in the 2000's

@@ole6945 As much as that could be true but in all Mbeki's utterances regarding his incumbent, he makes direct reference to reports which concluded and brought findings and then delivers the deeper contents of those findings in his view. I don't know if having an unpopular view against someone based on facts/reports should be regarded as 'nightmare'(something that haunts Mbeki) but Mbeki is just giving out a record of events. I would believe that Zuma didn't do himself a favour after the 2022 55th National Conference because he walked out of the ANC yet Mbeki hasn't defined himself outside the organization. Zuma didn't do justice to his own legacy and himself but this is a democratic country and such events show us how Democratic South Africa really is.

If a person doesn't resonate with Africa's politics and the need for us as South Africans to realize that we are a Gateway of Africa's Economic Transformation, we will continue to get confused when matters of this magnitude are raised. Yes, former President Thabo Mbeki has his shortcomings. However, he possesses the understanding of Economics without emotions but with clear insight of politics of Africa and the world in general.

Ulitmately Prez Mbeki & these UNISA conversations will be references on where the country went wrong and where the country went right, His observation of history is not in question but the buck stops with the ANC and it has produced all the Presidents we have had in the 30 years of the democratic republic. Yes they may be individual culprits within the organisation that went against the vision the party has/had, the question is this- in it's broader church approach the ANC has let in the Wolves & Hyenas in the same kraal as the lamb & sheeps, what checks are being used to test the leadership it produces because the Integrity Commission of the ANC does not have a bite, what occured in the 30 years interms of how corruptable the ANC can be, most of it came to the fore during the Zuma years & we shouldn't be naive to think it started with him and ended with him.

He had a misinformation, ZANU is very manipulative, all Africans fell for the manipulation. It was oblivious for him to understand the reality because ZANU dressed its short comings by Pan Africanisim.

Usually, great leaders are not brought down by big external things but their own never-healing internal weaknesses, like intense hatred for someone or a group/community of people, arrogance, greed, etc.

We often say this man was great, which I agree with but, he never groomed any leader, even this very school has not produced anyone to continue where he left off or take us to some height. Leaders may be born but they also have to be groomed, this very school has not done any grooming! And... may the God who brought us Polokwane also bring us healing.

Mr Thabo Mbeki, with respect to your status as former president. I would like to reply to your speech about DRC and Rwanda. DRC has nine borders with different countries and has 450 ethnics. Do Angola, Zambia, Brazzaville, Sudan must fight with DRC as they population are in danger in DRC? Why only Tutsi? Zimbabwe should fight with South Africa as they tribe are in danger in North of South Africa?

The M23 is a Rwandan army, in Congo there are no ethnic rebels. There are over 450 hundred ethnic groups and all ethnic groups form a small community group that all live in harmony. The West provides support to the Rwandan army because of President Kagame's ambition to expand Rwanda or form a new country. To control minerals, he wants to seize Congolese lands by force, while the West is looking for almost free minerals. I ask Mr Thabo Mbeki to read the history of Congo very carefully because you mentioned Mobutu. For your memory, the director of Mobutu's office was of Rwandan origin. Mobutu granted nationality to all Rwandans living in Congo so that they could become Congolese. When you were president of South Africa and talked about democracy, did you grant citizenship to African nationals? The Congolese recognize Tusti as Congolese, as you are witness in Sun City. you need to stop being a hypocrite. Everyone is aware that the conflict in Congo is economic. There are currently 7 million Congolese refugees living in their own country, and being African is not important to you, but the Congolese people will fight to the last Congolese.
@kamundele19783 ай бұрын
Thabo Mbeki has a cut in this. He doesn't care about the 10 million Congolese killed since kagame and his army took the power in Rwanda in 1994.
@fubub35953 ай бұрын
I respect thabo, but as a present you can't sides with rebel M23 that they did a right thing to take arms and fight a fellow government, imagine if shonas in takes arms in south Africa just bcz you take them as Zimbabweans...you were wron on so many points about DRC ,acutely u just delivered the same message that kagame has said, to justify stealing congolese minerals , or your don't know it? Or you just ignoring that over 10 million of congolese have died bcz of kagame and museven actions in congo ?
