*A conversation with Padma vibhushan Dr.M.Balamurali Krishna on the occasion of swami's Avatar Day* Interviewer's Introduction: " Dr. Murali Krishna is the form of Goddess saraswathi who has taken birth on July 6th which is very close to Guru Purnima (July 22nd of that year) , which is considered to be auspicious days for all gurus (Guru kaalam). Indian history has always placed Gurus at a very high pedestal. Swami by His divine will, watered the roots of the vast Indian culture and music among 150 countries without any discrimination in religion, cast and creed" 🙏 Interviewer to Dr.Balamurali Krishna : We regard you sir, as our guru for the present and future generations, so it would be most appropriate to know the significance of guru from you "🙏 Mr.Balamurali krishna : " It is a very sacred thing to discuss about guru on this auspicious occasion. As Thyagaraja swami says *"Without Guru, no Vidhya ( education/knowledge) could be achieved"* For any task, GOAL(objective/aim) is important. Even Arjuna mastered Archery only with his accuracy in aiming (Guri - aim in Telugu). Any disciple could achieve his goal only through guru and the Bonding between them is incomparable. In my case, my mother was a Veena Vidhooshini and my father was a great talented flutist. They were an ideal couple. When I was a foetus in my mother's womb, she lived in a remote village of Chandragupta while my father happened to be in Bezawada. Immediately after I was born, my mother sent a telegram to my father asking him to rush to the place where we lived, which was a rare thing on those days. Though my mother was in sound health, to my father's great astonishment, she foretold everything about my future wherein she mentioned that am a great birth of art. Also, she handed over the responsibility of bringing me up to my father and breathed her last attaining the lotus feet of Goddess Parvathi. I was brought up by my maternal aunt ( my mother's elder sister), who was a widow. Later I happened to settle down in life with my father at Bezawada who managed his daily bread by teaching music to few children. I never ever knew that I had music in me. But music found me and it took me in its hands. During my childhood, if I heard anyone playing wrong notes on musical instruments or sing with mistakes, I was able to understand that something went wrong and I would force them to stop immediately. By birth, music is embedded in my mind. Till now nobody in my family could find me practicing music or singing seriously except for teaching my students rarely. I learnt music from Sri.Rama Krishna Pantulu gaaru , whose guru was Dakshina Murthy gaaru who imbibed the art from Venkata Subbaiah who had the boon of learning the art as a direct disciple of swami Thyagaraja himself. Hence, I had the fortune of becoming the 5th generation disciple of Sri.Thyaga brahmam. I was blessed to sing swaras of Thyagaiyah with its originality . I ever did my keerthanas with those original swaras without any compromise, only because of which listeners were able to understand the meaning and the soul of the keerthanas easily. By the change of time, the students found it difficult to reach both higher and lower notes and tried to avoid them. But I was never allowed by Thyagaiyah to do such alterations or adjustments. He always ordered me to follow his original swaras and composition in my subconscious mind. My father never encouraged me to learn and practice any musical instrument thought he was a great flutist and violinist. In his absence, one day I tried playing the violin and my aunt was surprised hearing the perfection and excellence of the output. She narrated whatever happened to my father who was surprised too and allowed me to handle it then. God blessed me to play mrudangam and veena also with perfection in the very first attempt. Thus I have been travelling in my musical journey for the last 70 years successfully without knowing much about music. As I was less educated, I couldn't find any job to win me bread. Now and then, I rendered few songs in All India Radio. I was in a position to earn my meal by doing some work. I went to Mr.Veera Badra Rao, then senior secretary of AIR and requested him to get me some job. After all his enquiries, he clearly understood that music was the only stuff known to me. The very next day, he created a position of music supervisor at AIR and appointed me for the same with salary of Rs.250. In my childhood, wherever I went to learn (tuitions or school), I could never concentrate on studies. Instead, my teachers got inspired with my music. Later while working in AIR, I was looked down because of my poor English knowledge by an English announcer. At that very moment, I decided to qualify myself in English language. Within 6 months, I excelled in English and was able to give a speech in English in a rotary club meeting. Sri.Vimalananda swami, a guru of mine, who lived opposite to my house motivated me to achieve something in music like Thyagaiyah. Based on his words, I decided to write the definitions and details about the Sahithyas and 72 Melakarthas (Origin of music in any part of world, they act as steps to whole music), which I completed within 2-3 days of his encouragement. I succeeded to do the same in almost all Indian languages. One fine holy day of my life, I received a letter addressing me as *Naana*(meaning son or child in Telugu), as if a father calls a son. The content of that letter was " I heard your concert which was very good and inspired me a lot" Initially I assumed that the letter was from some musician. Later I noticed that it came from Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.This correspondence through letters went on between us which commenced that day. According to me, Bhagawan Sathya Sai is an avatar who revealed the presence of God to this world. He is my Guru, God and everything. I was invited to puttaparthi and had an opportunity to sing in His divine presence. On that day, swami gave me a loving advice which was *Invitation Leni chotulo nuvvu eppudiki velli sangeetham paadakudthu, athi Naa munthaina Kuda* ?Meaning : You must never go and sing without an invitation, even if it's my abode. Till this day in my life, I am following His words strictly. Our correspondence through letters continued forever but I never had an opportunity to have His darshan during the last days of His physical form. I understood that for all avatars like Rama and Krishna there was an end, so as swami , to establish to the mankind that when there's a birth, end of it is certain and unavoidable. Interviewer : At many instances, we have heard swami saying *Bala Murali Krishna has taken birth to bring back the original swaras , krithis of Thyagaiyah with its fullest impact* Swami also made a special mention that *At the age of 15, Bala Murali Krishna composed all 72 Melakarthas and particularly in the 32nd Melakartha, he has given his signatured composition very much like Thyagaiyah which nobody could even think of* Bala Murali Krishna: Many of swami's devotees often questioned me about why I never went and gave any concerts before the lord except for 3 times. I explained them that it was swami's advice which prevented me in doing so. I also told them, that if they really wanted to hear my concert at parthi, they could request swami order me to come over to Parthi and sing for Him. When these devotees asked for the same from swami, He replied that He was the first person seated in first row enjoying all my musical concerts without missing a single one. I am going through so many things in my life now and my wife Saraswathi looks after me completely in all aspects of life. Though I have so many worries, problems and financial struggles in my life, this interview has given me an opportunity to share things I know about swami, which has removed all the frustrations in my life and has given me an elephant's mighty strength to face anything in life. I believe that only swami Has sent you here to interview me just to boost up my energy and confidence levels inspire of all worries am going through in my life. From today, I have complete faith in my bright future as swami accompanies me always, no more worries Interviewer : You are a great being who can drown the whole world with your divine music including swami. Swami integrated the whole world with His love and grace whereas you did the same through your music . You also proved that music is common for all and it has no discrimination by presenting a Jugalbandi which was a union of Hindustani and Carnatic music. You also made a record by rendering more than 27,000 concerts. You were so blessed to have a intimate Bonding of love with Bhagwan, for which all devotees of swami yearn for. As a great guru of today, we make a humble request to you to visit puttaparthi and make us all fortunate with your divine music in Bhagwan's maha sannadhi. Bala Murali Krishna : Everything happens on swami's sankalpam. If it is swami's will, He himself will fetch me there very soon. Sairam 🙏🙏🙏

So he is not a great singer. You can combine all the greats of MS, Chembai etc., but they would not equal him. He is expert in so many fields - singing, composing, lyricist, poet, instrumentalist, jugalbandi expert. Yes he doesnt show false modesty. Many Junk artists show false modesty, what is the use of this false modesty. Competition got scared of him and started using their positions and played politics to defame this genius. None of them are of any match.

padma vibhushan is not given just like that.. u should start educating urself before ur life is wasted.. also leave ur ego and jealousy aside and listen to his kritis .. The jealousy in ur heart is not allowing u to realize his greatness .. Once if u do that , u will start worshiping him

How dumb you are and what musical knowledge do u have to challenge his proficiency? I have read his musical literature and it is really great and exceptional!! First learn how to pay respects to the pioneers of our nation!! APJ Kalam - What does he know? He doesn’t how to speak English? Mahatma Gandhi - What had he done? Mother Theresa - Who is she and why is she great? All dumb people speak like above like u do!! Shame!

@@karthiksharvirala5407Musicians who learnt along with him since childhood under the same guru corroborated his genius and he wasn't a marketed prodigy unlike today's child prodigies. Before you comment and exibhit your stupidity why don't you once listen to concerts of stalwarts such as Ariyakudi, Chembai with Balamurali on violin? Certain things can be believed only when experienced or seen oneself. BMK's arrogance or self indulging attitude will not make him any less genius!
@gopalgudipati563410 жыл бұрын
His 'claim' that he is singing the way Saint Thyagaraja himself would have sung is a blatant lie! To that matter, Neduri and Voleti's rendering was/is more close and traditional enough and authentic than Balamurali's! Any orthodox musician would accept this. And they never 'bragged' on their own.--- Because, they are more 'modest.' //GOPAL//.

Gopal Gudipati you seem to be full of hatred. It was he who brought music close to people. It was he who really served the purpose of music: bringing bliss into lives.
