Absolutely appreciate Dr. Lusting. He possesses a most important gift….being able to communicate things simply. In doing so, his voice is carrying far and wide, and making the necessary impact to dismantle the lies that have held so many of us prisoners to our appetites and disease processes.

I think this particular host is trying to appeal to the very uninformed audience. Those of us who have listened to Dr. Listig know these basic points. So he is attempting to slow the doctor down to get him to discuss the elementary issues.

Great interview. The intersection between economics and nutritional science is rarely discussed. In the 1970s, sugar, trans-fats, and seed oils likely had a unseen undercurrent of institutional support due to the three being “inflation friendly.” Meat and other high quality foods required higher costs to produce. If “a calorie was a calorie” you could feed a lot more people for a lot less by encouraging people to go vegetarian and eat processed foods.
@rawmilkmike
@rawmilkmike 8 ай бұрын
Consuming processed food costs the consumer a lot more money. But the profit margin is much higher for the producer. Especially when it's subsidized by the government and our taxes. That's before you calculate the cost of ill health to the consumer. Ill-health has the best profit margin of all. 14:20
@Spartices
@Spartices 8 ай бұрын
@@rawmilkmike I was referring to 1970s policy considerations made by government and educational institutions. At that time, saturated fat was seen as the biggest health threat facing the US populace. Red meat, eggs, milk, etc were seen as bad as well as being more expensive to produce. Government augmented food policy based on that assumption, granting processed foods institutional favor (AKA subsidies.) Which is also why Cheerios cereal is labeled “heart healthy” on the box.
@Spartices
@Spartices 8 ай бұрын
@@rawmilkmike I’m not sure what the cost of processed foods would be without the subsidies. But from the 1970s onward, the US government thought it would be getting more “bang-for-it’s-buck” on a calorie standpoint. Subsidies for processed foods would feed more people, keep them healthier, and keep inflation lower.

As a big fan of both great men, I have to say Prof. Sachs as a host just interrupted too much and too often during Dr. Lustig talking which is to my surprise as if he was fighting with Dr. Lustig for the time to talk. Maybe, Prof. Sachs is so used to be the interviewee who does the major talking that he confused his new role as the one who should limit himself primarily to asking questions and letting his expert guest do the most talking. Well hope he will do better job next time. Dr. Lustig, on the other hand, showed so much patience and elegance in the presence of a very disruptive host. BTW, I never found anyone who explain and reason his point in such clear, smooth and understandable way like Dr. Lustig. I wish I had a prof. like him when I was in college.

I hope people will decide to listen to what's been said as I did in 2017 listening to another spokesman in Italy who changed my life by teaching me the exact same concepts even if not in such grat details. 🙏 Thank you so much for this one more opportunity to listen to Dr. Lustig words which we all should memorise ❤

Love Dr. Lustig's energy and courage in facing down the industrial food industry- he has taught me so muc. But I hope Dr. Lustig will begin to include data on hormone deficiencies in women to describe the fat shift from subcutaneous to visceral in women with the loss of estrogen through ovarian senescence from a physiologically healthy level to zero. Sleep, bone, brain deprivation equals severe stress to the body.

I've only read one of Dr Lustig's books, "Fat Chance", about 10 years ago. First time I felt I had a grasp of industrially produced sweeteners. I'll order "Metabolical". I'm sure there is information out there about processes in UPFs. I've gone as far as I can with the manufacture of "vegetable protein", info seems aimed at investors not health.

The doctor pointed out that obesity simply doubles your chances of getting type two diabetes. It's not the cause of diabetes. Obesity tells you nothing about the individual's health. Food is what causes the ill-health, but calorie counting and food restriction are what causes the obesity. The food that causes the ill health also makes it impossible to lose weight. Even if it isn't what caused the weight gain in the first place. When you consume the right food , you can actually lose weight while increasing calorie intake. 14:20 If you think humans are omnivores, you're better off not dieting.
