This wide-ranging conversation on Georg Baselitz between three internationally renowned senior curators explores the artist's use of the histories of art and culture, his visions of masculinity, existentialism and his current directions in painting, drawing and sculpture. This discussion also explores the nature of and themes in Baselitz's work particularly the human figure and the fragmentation of the body.

Sir Norman Rosenthal - British independent curator and art historian, Exhibitions Secretary of Royal Academy of Arts, London from 1977 - 2008

Richter, while a very rigorous thinker, is certainly not a duchampian. He is always for beauty and composition in painting in service of his ideas. To say Richter is a mere illustrator of ideas is terribly wrongheaded. Baselitz is no Picasso, he has not the line, nor the color, nor the composition. He aspires to De Kooning but is closest to Guston. In Guston and Baseltz figural expressionism becomes mannerist, and is indeed the fore-runner to the endless neo-expresionism where this mannerism continues to lose a sense of narrative and vitality, becoming merely a style.
