I think it would be a good idea to convert a bad Guitar solo into a midi, so I can fix it and produce a better sound. Via sampler later on:-) Thanks for a good idea:-)))

I'm a big advocate of doing it right while recording. I often record Di and then reamp with a physical amp. It gives the possibility of playing around with amp settings and mic choice and placement. Ampsims are getting great but they aren't always convincing compared to a true tube amp. But I understand if you mix song produced by someone else ;)

Do you have enough pull with Magix to convince them to make Pro X7 and 8 to be user friendly like Pro X6? I bought 7 and NEVER use it it is so poorly laid out, many moves to do what used to take a couple. Great videos by the way!!!

Saddly, I'm not sponsored or close enough to the developpers to influence anything. I did have every version since X1 and to my memory the transition from x6 to x7 wasn't so bad ?? what aspect did you find confusing ?

This is Samplitude Pro X6 but those fonctions were in place since the integration of Melodyne, so I think it was since X2

Hey Marco, do you have a video taking a kick or snare track and converting it to MIDI? I am in a project that has terrible drum sounds.

The method is exactly the same except you may want to open melodyne first and set it to rithme and not melody. So all the midi notes will be the same.. you then just need to transpose the right not for the drums... Oh yes, you may want to use a gate on the track first..

You must load those in the effect bin of the track.. Only ARA plugins can link and sync externally.. like melodyne..

Great video, as usual! I have a problem though. I've tried to sample a snare, is there easy way to get rid of the extra hits from leakage from other drums, or do I have to manually delete them? Gating the snare audio track before converting to midi helps, but quite a lot of hits still come through.

You could duplicate the track and use a gate then freeze it and then convert, I guess.. But if the signal was compressed it's going to be hard...

@@MarcoPrimeau I did copy the track and gate that track before I split at transients with the audio quantize tool. After that I converted to midi, but still pretty many unwanted "hits" got through.

@@mikaelsnare I get you.. gating drums is such a pain. I use the gate from Fabfilter which has an internal sidechain EQ.. so you could make the detection from certain frequencies .. you could do the same by putting an EQ before the gate. Other than that I would consider third party solutions like drumagog

What do you mean, in samplitude, you don't see it in the menu ? As I mention in the video if you don't have it but have Melodyne, you can edit in melodyne and in its menu there is a fonction called save to midi.. Then it creates a midi file and you can load this file to your project.. What version of Samplitude do you have ?

Midi language is only a series of computer instructions. Give me a A for this long and this loud. You need to send those instructions to a sound generator, Software or hardware. In case of hardware, it's easy record the audio output of the unit. For software (VSTi) it's also easy, Samplitude and many DAWs have a Freeze fonction, so your midi track controling the VSTi is transformed to audio data once frozen. you can then keep it there or make a copy on another track and unfreeze to keep modifying it.

Hi Marco, I tried this in Samplitude Pro X5 and after I've selected "Audio To Midi" it processed for a second and then nothing happened. In your video the midi part was automatically added to a new track. Am I missing a part of the process? I tried using the same 2 track/2 AUX template and a mono sound sample. Thanks!

Hi David, It will only work on audio tracks with objects on it.. you won't get results on a buss.. Record some audio select the object itself and try the command again.. let me know if it work...

@@MarcoPrimeau that's what I tried. Track 1 (audio). I recorded a mono take (single note bass guitar). Right clicked on the object and "Audio to midi". It processed but then nothing happened. 🥺

@@davidgotteri I still have X5 installed and juste tested it and it works.. So it might be a setting or something.. I'm guessing it uses Melodyne to do it, so can you open melodyne and see if everything works there ? Right click / edit in melodyne... If so, a walkaround would be to open in melodyne and save as midi from there.. then import the midi file.. not the best but this too should work.. if not.. try to reinstall melodyne.. also make sure every updates available are done..

Okay, so I re-installed Melodyne and tried again with a mono bass guitar object. This time it converted to midi and presented the Object as midi, but it was all the same note. Timing and duration correct, but all the same pitch where the original moved around. I'll try again as something is clearly not -quite- right, but I'm nearly there!
