Converting a Dura ace RD-R9150 SS to a RD-R9150 GS using an Ultegra RD-R8000 GS

A quick tutorial on how to swap the cages of the rear derailleurs.

This is a good tutorial. It’s actually extremely easy. HOWEVER, on my first attempt I bought an Ultegra Long Cage ( inner and outer ) RD M 8000 which didn’t work. In reflection clearly operator error as the M means Mountain bike and it is the Deore/XT item. Just hope nobody else makes this schoolboy error 😅.

Checking the exploded drawings, the R8000-GS and R8050-GS cages are different part numbers. It would appear that based on your experiment, either may work, but I wonder if the R8050-GS cage might be better suited to the task.

What's the difference in weight of the cages? i.e. why not just use an RD-R8050-GS?

try and find them on ebay maybe or ask a LBS if the can order it trough their supplier, you just need to give the exact serial number of the part which you can find in explosion drwaing of the derailleurs, in your cas RD-R8000

it works fin i was gonna make a follow up video but couldnt be fucked, it works fine with a 50-34 and 11-42. But for touring a clutch is needed so i have now changed to xtr di2
