Converting Buck to Buck-Boost to get a negative volage

I like how you can just rotate the switching cell and get all and any of the topologies, similar to how rotating parts around you get SEPIC, Cuk, Zeta converters.

i assume it is relatively hard to keep it stable since the input voltage keeps changing. Also now there are 2 way to get a GND short

Indeed, the rearrangement changes the open loop transfer function and may require a change in the controller. As for GND shorts I am not sure I follow.

Clever. While the circuit _looks_ like a buck converter, it is not. So replacing the converter by a linear regulator does not work, obviously.
