The green fire symbolizes that the Dai Li are just as vile and opressive as the Fire Nation but with a different tint. SPOILERS: Azula even confirms this when she says "Have you met the Dai Li? They’re earthbenders, but they have a killer instinct that’s so Firebender...I just love it."

One thing that I love about the green fire is that it isn’t a fire, bending trick that’s genuinely a thing that mediaeval Chinese alchemists did. There was even a fad for different coloured fires for a while.

The the 35th technique is flight/levitate/anti-gravity without using wind. It's next to impossible to do. Only one Air Monk/Nun was able to do it so in order to "get your arrow" you have to master 34 of the 35 techniques then invent one. Aang invented the Air scooter. If they do make any Avatar prequels they should show adult Air Monks/Nuns without the arrows because many of the techniques are hard to do.

Long Feng needs to keep the Avatar and gang close, to keep them in line. They have proven that they will more than likely tear up every brick of Ba Sing Se to achieve what they came there to do, taking the Dai Lee down with them as well. So long as the gang is searching for Appa, Long Feng has leverage to make sure they stay behaved. They rule through fear, and intimidation and when people like Jet get too troublesome, they reprogram them. I'm sure a lot of people like Pong already know but are just too scared to do anything. All the nicesities are just a formality for appearances.

It's not like they are absolutely clueless about the war. The leaders want Ba Sing Se to be known as the world's last great bastion of peace. They put great effort in making the war seem as distant from the city as possible to keep the populace as calm and complacent as possible. And whether it's traumatized refugees seeking to rebuild their lives or the upper class of societal personalities and corporate bigwigs, they're all more than happy to tuck their heads down for this "peace" for their families or their wealth. AOT vets can instantly put the connections together in that regard. As far as why Long Feng would welcome the Avatar in the first place instead of insisting Aang finish the war off by himself, the Avatar is still a highly regarded figure in the world. Word would undoubtedly spread if Aang and his group weren't fully embraced, much faster than the Dai Li could suppress. Much better for Ba Sing Se's interests to brag that even the Avatar sought refuge within the walls, a big status boost for residents inside and outside.

This is the 6th rewatch of this show for me and I've just had realized some things about uncle Iroh's and Zuko's new life: When Iroh warmed up his tea, Zuko pointed out why exactly it was a bad idea. Later on, in the tea shop Iroh definitely senses he's being watched, he's not just decided "well, ok, no bendidng," - that's why he doesn't use firebending, although he's "objectevely alone". The realization that Iroh knows someone's got a watch on him is really cool - he's not just skilled in a war craft, he's a true master after all The second time I was impressed by the writing of the characters is when Zuko fights Jet - everybody saw a tiny little bit of Zuko using his firebending on Jet at the moment when he cut off the straw, but it actually depicts Zuko's short temper - he's eager to just firebend his rival and it takes everything from him just to hold on

Drill episode was simply epic! The teamwork with the Gaang and Aang's fight with Azula right before that awesome run up and down the wall with the music, masterpiece 😊 Love the fact that Ba Sing Se has basically been hyped in the show for awhile now as the big help that the Gaang needed in order to stand against the Fire Nation...and then we finally get here and this is what we get. Things are just completely messed up. Still hard to believe this was a Nickelodeon show at times. As for Jet, I find it a bit ironically sad that he was right about Iroh and Zuko being Fire Nation but because of the way he was acting, he just came off as crazy. We as the audience know that Iroh and Zuko aren't bad people or going to do anything to the city despite being Fire Nation, but Jet doesn't know that. So from an objective perspective, he was doing the right thing. Afterall, Ba Sing Se IS the last Earth Kingdom stronghold left. Two firebenders hiding in plain sight is cause for suspicion. For all Jet knows, they could be infiltrators. It's just too bad he came off as crazy and the Dai Li are trying hard to suppress anything war and Fire Nation related. Can't wait for the next two episodes!!

I always suspected that Long Feng and the Dai Le had made secret deals with the Fire Nation to largely leave Ba Singe Se out of the war. Of course, Ozai had the drill built and sent it to break through the wall of the city because Ozai is a lying, lecherous POS. Azula and Ozai had no way of knowing that the Aang Gang would be there to stop the assault. It would've succeeded without them. King Bumi gave up Omashu without a fight because he was trying to avoid a bloodbath in battles they couldn't win. Ba Singe Se did something similar. In the real world of Earth, nations have done this and more to keep from fighting a war Look at how some nations acted before and during WWII.

I see that you're getting annoyed with Mai and her angst but I just want to give some context. This season aired in 2006 when the Emo/Scene fashion was really big. Myspace was the big social media at the time and almost all the big popular people to follow on there were Scene people. This was also the time of Emo/ pop punk music. This style was everywhere. So naturally a popular kids show that is trying to connect with it's audience is going to go with what is popular. Which in 2006 was angsty emo/scene kids. So don't hate on Mai because she was loved when this came out.
