Converting the Tiguan 09G to dq250 dsg!! Part 2

Todays part 2 and the finale of converting the Tiguan 09m over to a dq250 dsg!
Swap took place over a weekend and wasn’t too bad, still to come is tuning the dsg with IE software! And working on the coding for the check engine light.

You'd rather use the 7 spd from the later gti the mqb based one

Got my swap up and running, however I cant find out where to put pin 7 on the DQ250 connector. It is the speed signal wire, do you remember where you connected it?

Pin 7 should be blank. The dsg only needs a few connections to work. Runs most of the systems off the fan network.

@@prestofixit3518 I am getting a code in VCDS under trans. P0726 RPM Signal from ECU. Assuming it’s because I don’t have anything connected there. Might be a little different as my vehicle is a 2015 Sportwagen but still had a 09G.

@@JacobCanale42 depending what dsg you got to replace it with most of them have the same wiring. It’s a can high and low wire, a switched and a constant 12v, a ground, Kline, and a shift interlock. That’s all I had to hook up for my transmission and it’s worked fine since.

Don't know for sure but doubt vw would add extra engineering cost for separate bell housing patterns but there could be a tcm difference

Example, my 98 zj 44re was never offered in a 5 speed ax15, however the firewall is still stamped for a clutch master/slave reservoir, xj pedal assembly with a 30 second cut to fit ( wasn't paying 500$ for 93-94 OGs) bolted in without a hit h other than drivelines and a neutral safety switch

Not yet. Working on a way to do it. Probably gonna need a ecm from a gti to fix it.

@prestofixit will it still be able to get a tcm tune like say through apr or ie etc even tho its says its not communicating with the ecu? Also do you think the k line you mentioned has anything to do with it and were you able to do the clutch adaptation in vcds with the tcm code. I really think im going to do this swap. Im currently CTS K04 Turbo and manifold with APR K04 tune. Im going to upgrade this weekend to the CTS Boss 500 Turbo (Gtx 2867r) and run the APR GTX stage 3 tune. I found a similar 02E dq250 except its from a audi tt Quattro. I have 4motion already so it should bolt right up no problem. Im going to work on getting all the other parts needed as well, gti or s-tronic shifter, axles, flywheel etc. I think I might try to use the stock front mount trans cooler thats already on the tiguan I should be able to just cut the rubber section hoses going directly into the 09m and get some barbed fittings to in-between the cut sections and the an lines that will go to the aftermarket sandwich plate on the dq250 to replace the stock oil cooler. You aced this shit btw dude.

@@tremgarrison that sounds like an awesome build!! I was able to do clutch adaptation! It also let me flash the tcm with a tune so it’s a tuned dsg now and it shifts great! Launch control works and everything! Definitely let me know if you have any questions along the way!

Dealing with same issue I believe my can bus wiring isn’t good or the ground wire isn’t perfect I’m planning on looking for the cause this weekend or I fried my tcm

in the middle of this swap on a VR6 swapped Tiguan. Am i correct to get it to drive you did zero ECU/TCU coding? all wiring no computer adjustments?

@@tiguannerd.vr6 yes technically. It will communicate and work just doesn’t have parameters for the dsg. So take off will be clunky and shifts aren’t as fast. Also you will have constant check engine light and communication errors.

@@tiguannerd.vr6 no you can try changing coding over to a dsg but my computer wouldn’t accept the coding. Since I’ve swapped in a gti computer and everything shifts like it’s supposed to! Just you lose abs and traction control cause of modules not compatible with gti computer

No everything bolts in and no problems with the ecm or immoblizer

Did you see any improvement in gas mileage with this swap as compared to the stock 6 speed automatic?

At first it went up to like 27mpg so it was a few better! But then I got the dsg tune done and that makes it stay in the gears longer and rev higher, my average mpg is now 22 for the past 2k miles.

Is it possible to contact you somehow? I've done a DSG swap on my 2013 Tiguan AWD .. works fine I daily it but my DSG is acting weird at times and after a couple weeks I have a code in my TCU for lost communication with ECM pi it's not a permanent code. I think the guy that did my wiring may have done something wrong. Thanks

Yes it’s a permanent code. The only way to fix it is swap out the ecm for one from a gti and code it as a dsg.

Oh I know about the TCM code. I'm saying sometimes my DSG has a lost communication with ECM code which is weird because it's still working. Sometimes it's jerky or doesn't know what it's doing but overall it's fine. The TCM code I'm gonna try to delete it. I'll let you know if it works. I'm also running a K04-X Hybrid from CTS Turbo. Tuned on the dyno at 323whp where we hit the HPFP limit. Turbo still only at 17psi. I'm going to upgrade the HPFP and try to hit 4xxwhp as soon as I fix the DSG problem. What is weird too, I don't have the dash showing P R N D S anymore.

Found out why it didn't show P R N D S ... Transmission wasn't coded in the gateway module. Now, gonna try and fix the check engine for the old TCU this week.

Dsg has no TCU. Its insidd the gearbox. Just hook canbus and +12v.
