Converting .vrm files to a .vroid file

If you bought a model from Fiverr or booth, here is how you import the files into vroid so you can continue modeling it yourself.

For future viewers this isn’t a VRM to VRoid format. All it is is taking textures from one VRM and importing it to a new model in VRoid using Unity to get the textures.

Thank you for the clarification!!! This is correct. All I'm doing in this video is showing you how to recreate the .vroid file from an VRM file. Since there doesn't seem to be an easy conversion yet this just may be your best option. But if someone does figure out how to actually convert file please let us know. Thanks

@@ChibiRina Yes, it’s a good tutorial for that type of thing, but I imagine some people are going to be confused with the title since that is a similar common thing many people want. Probably the only way to get a model back into a VRoid format would be using scripting. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen anyone make a plugin to be able to do that though yet. Most people that use VRoid don’t know how to script while the ones who do usually don’t care about VRoid and would rather focus their energy on doing more advanced stuff like make a video game or creating a plugin for Blender.

I had a client ask for a model with tattoos and I had to redownload the model files I sent them because my hard drive died and I didn't want to have to redo the tattoos and since I used the original model I sent them as a base for future costumes they asked for I really needed at least the base back thank you so much

That’s because this isn’t converting a VRM to VROID model. This is just importing textures from one model onto a new model in VRoid. The title is clickbait because this is a common thing many people want.

I made a vroid character and exported it to VRM because I thought I wouldn't have to edit it later but I planned making poses with it in vroid and it asked for a .vroid file and it wasn't saved as a .vroid so I can't pose it!!

To be honest, I'm not really sure. But I would believe the easiest possible way would be in unity if you know how to use it.

If your file is just a texture pack yes, this works. But if the mesh was modified (hair and face and body ); this won't work as the mesh information that make that character in that way, is not in the textures. Basically you are not converting anything; you are taking the textures from a VRM model and import them in VROID.

Sadly my laptop nearly died when I tried to run this, its just really old and not the greatest so I am at a loss of how to get this avatar my friend edited for me into vroid studios there are some things I need to fix on it such as add color, the hoodie and hair are all grayed out, I know this because I was able to import it to vmagic mirror and I dont know of any other vtuber creating program for pc so if you have any ideas on how to fix this issue then I would be most grateful if you could share them.

Kinda annoying because I make my own characters, and a lot of characters I made need fixes T.T I thought this was like a file conversation from VRM into a .Vroid without changing the extension nane. I just want to reimport my character back into Vroid Hub... X.X

😔So far there are no direct convertors out there. This method is the closest we got, as far as I'm aware.

I understand just about everything in this. However. My button at the top is called "VRM1", and it cannot import. It can only export. I can drop a vrm in the assets and edit it via dragging it into the Hierarchy. However, this does not show any texture files as shown in this video. It only shows.... well, body part files? Basically I do this to move attachments around. Do you know what I may be doing wrong? EDIT: I figured it out. So, my method of dragging and dropping the vrm into the Assets folder is fine. I click on the newly added file, and for me I convert it to VRM1 (since it was vrm0 and this version doesn't like that). Now, in the Inspector tab you go to the Materials tab and hit Extract Materials. Now the materials are available to click and you can then show in explorer. Fantastic :)

I do not believe you can convert the animation files but there are other software that have animation for streaming, such as 3tene and Vup. You can also use unity and mixamo animations for more options. Hope that helps

That is a good question. 🤔I have never tried. I'm not familiar with the file types for mmd but I would imagine that not everything would be transferable.

I'm not entirely sure but I believe with the new vroid they have a different file type for the clothes therefore you would follow the same steps but look for the items name.vroid I'll try to make a video about it next week.

Not really. All they’re doing is transferring the textures from one model in unity to the Vroid model in Vroid studio. It’s basically exactly what the title says and it’s not clickbait. You can’t directly convert from VRM to VROID.
