Hello. I found your install very interesting, recently I had a patio door removed and a French door installed. Big question mark arose, the cold coming in from ground level is very noticeable. You did something different to what I saw the installers do. You put down a cill? And foamed insulated it before you placed the frame in place, that was not done here and I wonder would this be the reason the cold is coming into room through what I think is the floor at bottom of frame. I appreciate any expert advice you could give,
@kawo666
@kawo666 4 жыл бұрын
The foam under the cill is only part of the story. Yes, it is necessary, but there's one more thing worth checking. I.e. can you see the vent brick externally, on the lower right-hand side of the french door? This is to vent the cavity. When creating a new opening, it would be good practice to use some form of cavity closer to prevent the draft. On the floor slab level this could be achieved with something as simple as a cut-to-size piece of polystyrene foamed around for full seal. Good luck.

G'day from South Australia Stu. Could you please tell me what that piece was you glued down with foam along the bottom of the opening? Does that expanding foam really glue things like that down to brick well? Could you also tell me what the fixings you used to screw the frame to the brick were please, and did you use packers between the frame and the brick when you screwed the frame down? I would like to do a few window and door changes around my home here and while I have some construction experience I have never done this so some more from you already great videos would be handy to have. If you have this in your other videos, could you just tell me which ones please? I will also need to change lintels in some areas so If you have done this can you point me to that too please?
