I think, he was not a real Christian believer. He is literally just someone who ask to become muslim. Jesus said he is the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE. Some of the 99 names of ALAH that no human can claim. He also said that NOONE can go to the FATHER except through HIM.

Every Prophet is the way the truth and life. No one can go to God except through that prophet during that period. During Abraham time, he is the way, and Moses time he is way to God and like Jesus. But they are sent for people of that period.Jesus himself I am been sent but unto the lost sheep of Israel.But Prophet Mohammed who sent as a last and final prophet is sent for whole humanity. He is the way, the truth till the day of judgment. No one can go to God except through the prophet Mohammed now.
