Excessive rolling is annoying to me.Dominicans are educated and know how to speak. You choose all well speaking representatives of each country and that is because ALL cultures have slang and ghettos not just Dominicans just like all have well educated and well spoken citizens as well. So to me this is not well represented

I’m half Costa Rican and half Peruvian, but raised in Costa Rica. I can say that in Costa Rica we roll our r’s with the roof of our mouths rather than the front of the mouth like in some of the other countries, so it sounds more like a smooth vibration than a roll. It’s definitely not the same way a gringo would pronounce the Spanish “R”, which is the way you attempted it with the word “carro”. It’s hard to explain, haha! 😂🇨🇷❤️

Dominican slang words: Tiguere: Sounds like ''tigre'' but the superlative is ''tigueron'' or ''tigueraso'' instead of the expected ''tigraso''. It is a really savvy (mostly street savvy) individual. Palomo: Is the opposite of "tiguere". A really naive or non-savvy individual. The superlative is ''palomaso'' or ''palomon''. Dar banda: to give a break or leave alone. Ex: Me tienes cansa'o! Dame banda! Ruede: used to tell someone to "piss off" or "get lost". A way to tell someone to leave you alone. Used to end a conversation abruptly. Que lo que: A way of greeting. Literally means "What's up!''. Dime a ve': Same as "que lo que". Come m*erda: used to denigrate someone who has a pretentious attitude. NOTE: We (dominicans) skip pronouncing the S and we have 4 mayor accents (Capital, southern, northern or cibaeño, and eastern) Capitaleños change the R at the end of a word by an L. Sureños: over roll the R and speak with an uplifting tone. Cibaeños: tend to switch the R for an "i" (yes, it is weird) and the "i" for an R sometimes. Eastern: Really subtle accent that tend to skip pronouncing the R and overhold the D or T after the R. Sounds something like cubans but with a different tone. I hope this helped. Im open to corrections and extra opinions.

The Lima accent is considered "effeminate" by people from other regions of Peru. The Northern (Piura, Trujillo) accent is sing-song, the Southern (Arequipa, Tacna) glides a bit like the Chilean, and the Puno accent is similar to Bolivian. Cuzco and most of the interior (Jauja, Junin, Huancavelica) have the "highlander accent" (serrano), where the E turns into an I, the O into a U, and the S into a SH, so "te lo voy a decir" sounds like "ti lu vuy dishir." The most "neutral" accents are from the coast around Lima, and Lima working class, which is very similar to the Bogota and Madrid accents, with very few inflectional cues. The Peruvians speak a bit faster, though, and can on occasion slur the consonant ("no seas así, hermano" sounds like "noseasirmano"). The upper-level accent in Lima is indeed "effeminate" with very soft ending of the phrase, sounding almost like a question, and several up-and-down tones reminiscent of the Valley Girl accent in LA.
@Diego-mi1ps2 жыл бұрын
You are equating upper-level accent with the "pituco" (empty-headed, shallow, materialistic) accent. Not all upper class Limeans talk like a "pituco"; that'd be like saying every Californian talks with a stereotypical "valley girl" accent.

Tigere/Tigera is a guy or girl that is street smart, can also be used as "Dude" Cortalo: Means the person is asking you to stop talking about something. ex; Maria: hey, so did you speak with Nana about the thing? Zuleika: No, I don't want to talk about it. Maria: but... Zuleika: Cortalo! I said I don't want to talk about it. I have to agree. Im learning Spanish, an English native speaker, but im from the midwest of america. The first time I heard my friend from lima speak, (most of our conversations had been text communication in games) I felt like I was hearing the latino equivalent of the Midwestern accent. Its very mild, generally understandable, and the tone it is spoken in matches the tone in which I speak English. So as an English speaker learning spanish it is a good accent to learn from. 🙈

The title is so misleading. It’s hispanic accents. Saying Spanish accents is like saying American, Canadian, Jamaican, English, Australian, and Guyanese speak with English accents
@ConvoSpeak3 жыл бұрын
Accents in spanish would work better then? Sorry it was confusing
@jeanneg60043 жыл бұрын
I think it's correct this way, isn't it? America accent is an English accent (accent of the English language). There are many English accent, many of which you named
@icecreambeats1013 жыл бұрын
@@jeanneg6004 I spoke with a friend of mine from Spain and she said when you’re referring to an accent, it’s from that country. Prime example, someone who has a Jamaican accent would be from Jamaica even though they speak English. A cuban accent would be someone who’s from Cuba even though Spanish is the language. My husband says when you are talking about a group of people from a continent then you can say Asian accents because there are different Asian accents because of different countries. Since most people from Latin America are Hispanics which is an ethnicity, it makes sense to say hispanic accents. Even in the country of Spain, there are different Spanish accents because those are Spanish people. I’m tired of people saying we are Spanish because we speak Spanish. Nope, if you are from Spain or have parents from Spain then yes you are Spanish. But Dominicans, Peruvians or Cubans are not Spanish because they speak the language. Their ethnicity is Hispanic regardless of their race.
@jeanneg60043 жыл бұрын
@@icecreambeats101 No-one was talking about ethnicity. What I was saying, that in my opinion "Spanish accents" refers to the many different versions of Spanish that are being spoken by different groups of people
@icecreambeats1013 жыл бұрын
@@jeanneg6004 I totally disagree. So by your logic American, Canadian, Belizean, Guyanese, Jamaican, Trinidadian, Bahamian, and other islands have English speaking accents. Those accents are Hispanic accents. I’m a Hispanic who’s white so stop calling us “Spanish” and saying we have “Spanish accents”. Spanish accents are different accents in Spain, not Latin America

It is very concerning that you do not realize how disrespectful you are in this video. I could not get past the Dominican portion without losing it. Since when is Colombian Spanish perfect? Why would you find it appropriate to bring Costa Rica 'down a notch' because they do not roll their Rs (which is not true, by the way)? Why does Dominican slang frustrate you so much? Is it because you don't understand? Pues aprende, compadre! There is no perfect Spanish. It was forced upon us by colonizers. Every part of Latin America should do their part to bastardize the language. How different countries, regions, and cultures choose to pronounce sounds and develop their slang is what makes them special, helps shape their identity, an identity that was stripped away from Indigenous people, Black people, and the lower class. You are not entitled to understand all Spanish from all places because you are a fluent speaker from Colombia. It is much better for you to educate yourself and appreciate the differences than it is to criticize the nuances you are ignorant of. I completely understand this is your opinion, but you should understand that your opinion, in this video, is offensive and prejudice. I am more than happy to have a real conversation with you.

Hi Jeffrey. Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your thoughts. I agree with you. The goal of my videos is to entertain and when I recorded this my intention was to tease fellow Latin Americans, the way siblings tease each other, in a loving way competitive kind of way. However, I understand that some of my jokes reinforce colonial and often racist stereotypes. It is something I am working on, and my hope is my newer videos reflect this learning process. What I love the most of the channel is how much I learn from people like you. My goal is to create spaces to connect, talk and create representation in a way that is entertaining and well sometimes cringy, which youtube loves. I also want to talk about the diversity of out language and culture. Jeffrey your comment is true. It motivates me to remake a video about the accents in DR, costa rica etc, still make it funny but highlight the positives of our diversity, the history. It can be entertaining and educational too. Would love to hear your thoughts of where I can find resources that could help me make this video? And by no means I think we colombians are better... We are proud but very self critical. Thanks you again and i appreciate you bringing this up

@@ConvoSpeak you are very welcome and I appreciate you for the thoughtful response. First and foremost, these are my opinions and I do not control your content in any way, shape, or form. Feel free to absorb or throw away whatever suggestions I make. KZbin is for free expression, as long as it does not cause harm, and it's wonderful when this platform can spark conversation like this. In your comment I now understand your intent. It was not executed well in the video. The feeling of sibling rivalry is nothing without sibling love preceding it. Show us that you love these other places and people before you feel it's ok to poke fun. In terms of providing you resources: It is your responsibility to do the work and I don't receive a portion of your ad revenue. Being Black and Latino, I had to do the work for myself to find out why I was not considered normal, why people made fun of my complexion, my hair texture, my Spanish accent when I spent time in Spain and other parts of Latin America. Study Black people's work. Study Indigenous people's work. There are experts of color in all fields from language, to food, to music, to anthropology, to political science that can help you understand a great deal. Most of us do not have the privilege of spending an ample amount of time in all areas of Latin America to immerse ourselves in those regions. But all those cultures have experts and elders and historians that help uncover why a certain people sound the way they do. Were these dialects influenced by Indigenous people that first inhabited the area or brought over from African slaves or Europeans fleeing their countries during WWII? I write all of this to say: El español feo no existe. This goes for Spanglish and Portuñal as well. It's all interesting. It's all beautiful. It's all music because it has a story to tell.

You are being critical about Laura Bozzo, a talk show host who aired 20 years ago. By the way, she was not the only TV host to exploit poor people. I recall watching other talk show hosts from Ecuador and Colombia in syndication who are now lost in obscurity. It was a trend of the times, much like Jerry Springer in the US. I find it silly that as a Colombian that is your choice impression for this KZbin segment published 2 months ago. Oh, and I used to know a Colombian (from the countryside I believe) who spoke very sing-song and high pitched so the accent in your country is not the clear, leading example. Yes, I was born in Lima. Peace! 🙏

Hi Shirley. Thank you for commenting and bringing that up. We indeed have crazy accents in Colombia as well. I meant no offense towards Peru. As I said in the video, Peruvians have been the most welcoming people I have met. In fact, my dad lived there for many years and he loved it. I just mentioned Laura in America as something I was exposed as a kid, not as a criticism toward Peru. I agree I shouldn't have brought her up , and apologize for doing it. Unfortunately that's how the media showed us Peru. I hope in the future highlight more of the positive things of Peru, like Vargas Llosa, the natural beauty, the delicious food, and the generous people. Again thanks for bringing this issue up

As a Dominican, I don't think you have heard a lot of Dominican people speak to say that Juan Luis Guerra and Romeo Santos have their accents toned down, I found that to be a bit insulting. There are a lot of different accents in the Dominican republic as there are in other countries. I feel a lot of people who aren't dominican have this parody stereotypical view or idea of what the dominican accent sounds like.
