This look, was what I called Engelbert's beachcomber mode. Blonde hair, curly and longer, georgeous tan, and those white suits. When we met him at the airports, he looked like ~ well ~ a Super Star! What can I say. Even his limo was white. Just a wonderful man, who loved to see the fans reactions, as the new Tour began each year. He always had something different for us. Still does, and like receiving a Christmas card from him and his family each year, we wonder what the New Year will bring.

Sadly at 87, the octaves, huge audiences and looks have gone. He now plays to small audiences of diehards with a record playing in the background, a young small band, young dancers in cat suits, him in a big red blouse, trying to sing, dance, crack very old jokes…..cringeworthy and sad 😢

He was in his middle 40s in this video. He's in his early 70s now, and still a very sexy, handsome man...still a great singer...little or no change in his voice. He gives the best performance of anyone I've ever seen, and I've seen a LOT of them; I saw him a couple of months ago. Also, he signed my tour book a year ago, so saw him UP CLOSE!! Believe me, he's the BEST!!! Also, very gracious and considerate of his fans.

@starr522 - very interesting comment. I never thought about the "confusion" aspect before, but maybe you're onto something. Perhaps that's why I find the young Engelbert (1960's - early 70's) and the mature Engelbert of the last 15 - 20 years my favorite eras. He seemed to be comfortable with himself, who he is - without all of the pretense. Just saw him a few weeks ago in concert and he was great. 75 years old, an elegant gentleman with a great voice, great sense of humor, great presence.

Even after age 85, this guy's still got it. Yes even sex appeal in addition to his thorough understanding of timing and music in general. Stage performances very entertaining. Sad for loss of his dear wife who stuck beside him all the years, even tho he was a bit of a rapscallion from time to time. Go "Humpy".....all the best to you from Louise in suburban Chicago in 2022. No one can sing like him. Utterly fantastic. I really feel sorry for him with the loss of his lovely wife.. it has to be painful. I lost my husband 28 yrs ago so I know how it feels. His singing is so soothing to me. I play his music every night when I go to sleep. Sometimes I don't get past the first song and I am sleeping that's how his music affects me. One great great singer.
