You are edging closer to the VAT threshold. Have you thought about this - i.e. whether you want to smash through it, or keep below it? Also, the cash back sites is a definite tip, I was such a late comer to that - annoyingly. I actually buy my postage via Evri through Quidco - and not only do you get cash back but also Tesco club card points - paid for my Christmas food shop! Wish I'd thought about this sooner!
@CarBoot_ChrisКүн бұрын
Ye I have been keeping a close eye on my rolling turnover for the last 2 years. The recent increase to 90k has helped. Sign up to complete savings, they give 10% on Evri purchases. I’m making way more there than Quidco although I use both for different sites.

Not sure the flat rate for work at home is correct. That rate is more for employees that work from home. If you’re self employed and use your home as a business premises and storage then you can claim back a proportion of cost. I would look into it.
@JustBens2 күн бұрын
It is correct. Flat rate for simplified/cash basis. see HMRC if you work from home. If you are doing a proportion of cost you would be using accrual accounting method.
@eddventures2 күн бұрын
@ sounds different from advice I was given. If you’re using say 1/4 of your house as storage, utilities etc then you can proportion those costs back was my understanding.
@CarBoot_Chris2 күн бұрын
Justbens is correct, depends what method of accounting you are using.
@digvintage57692 күн бұрын
Flat rate is £26 per month as long as you've worked 101 hours on your business in that month.
@eddventures2 күн бұрын
@@CarBoot_Chris can you not change the way you account for it then? I’m getting advice here that a % of your mortgage interest can be charged back, allocation based on rooms you use, % of utilities etc. Seems like that’s a lot of costs, I mean if you use say 1/4 of your home and utilities etc then £20 a month doesn’t feel anywhere near the true cost which is likely 10X or 20X this amount.

Ideally you need to pushing through £110k turnover to make it worthwhile.
@eddventures2 күн бұрын
Other thing is that I think it’s scandalous that VAT isn’t a progressive tax. Getting smashed with 15-20% on all revenue just acts as a barrier to anyone not wanting to scale beyond £90k. It’s bonkers that the VAT is on the total revenue and not just everything beyond £90k.

Resellers have ruined car boot sales. The whole ethos of the years back was that people got a genuine bargain for something they actually needed. Now, it’s just greedy, pushy resellers buying up everything just to make a 50p profit
