how come the video says ~500 pp, but on his profile his overall pp only goes up by a little?

its because of the weighing system. not every scroe you submit gets added up (else the entire pp thing would be a play much thing). only your best score counts 100 percent, the second best pp score gets multiplied with 0.95 before getting added, and so on, going lower. thats how that comes. 500 pp is such low in the ranking it doesn t give him a huge rise anymore, with all the plays in this pp realm he has already. there is an osu wiki who explains what i said in more details. it has an article about performance points as well

As Nihil Dwo said, there is a weighting system. For example this performance, it's 459 pp, weighted 2%, which is approxiamtely 9pp. You also have to consider the fact that every performance under 459 are now weighted a bit less, so this play gave him something like 5pp, or maybe less :)
