Just another morning in Caura Valley. I'm busy in the kitchen, not exactly talkative, and bubbling a pot and grating cassava for cassava dumplings.

Masterful in the kitchen, Mr. Harry moves with marksman-like precision when prepping and cooking food. For the non-Trinidadian and non-West Indian audience and others who may not be familiar with what Farmer Harry is cooking, the word he used was - DASHEEN. The word DASHEEN is a Trinidad French Creole or PATOIS word that is comprised of TWO FRENCH WORDS: DA and CHINE. The first part of the word - DA - has been changed from the Original French word - DE - which means FROM, and the second part of the word - SHEEN - came from the Original French word - CHINE - which means - CHINA. Put the two words together we get DA+CHINE, or more accurately: DE+CHINE or DECHINE (correctly pronounced DESHEEN if we use the original French pronunciation), and we literally get the translation into English as: FROM CHINA. So when a Trinidadian says "DASHEEN BUSH", the direct meaning in English is: BUSH FROM CHINA because that's where it originally came from, and found its way into Farmer Harry's Kitchen "Inside Caura".
