Joyce, you have to pour cold running water over the closed pressure lid as this will release all the pressure and hot steam that's built up during cooking inside and this is the safest way to release the pressure and open the pressure cooker after cooking. PLEASE DO THIS OTHERWISE THERE IS A RISK OF BEING SCALDED IN YOUR FACE AND NECK WITH VERY SERIOUS BURNS.
