Tommy, I give you a LOT of credit - and I'm laughing along with ya! I'm pretty much completely colorblind, so any time my sister comes over with her kids, I insist that we play Candyland. Since I can't actually see any of the colors, I have a gaggle of children shouting "YOU'RE CHEATING!!" "I am? Well, who should I trust to tell me what color is on the card?"

I had a BBQ a few months ago. One of my guests brought a blind friend. She requested a pie tin to put her food in so that she didnt accidently push it off her plate while eating.

That's amazing, i don't think I've ever made waffles from scratch to that extent. I've had pre mixed batter you just add water or milk, something like that. With a little practice figuring out where the hot things are (finding a specific spot to place stuff) might help reduce injury. Courageous fear concouring!

Sounds like you gotter done. There are a couple items I use every time for cooking in skillets and getting hot stuff out of things similar to waffle presses. The top item is a scissor handled set of extra long skinny tongs. The handle on my favorite one is coated in a heat resistant coating on just the scissor like handles. This and wooden chop sticks, work so much like navigational canes, except they are great for finding the perimeters of the hot pans, and the edges of the food. I definitely found another item, hang off the aisles along the groceries in Walmart, that I want, which is like a set of mini hot pads, except they just barely fit a little ways onto your fingers and thumbs which is just right for dealing with hot small levers of things, like the waffle maker it sound like you have. You did get me craving waffles. 😊

I definitely get why this would be really scary. Kudos to you for overcoming that and trying anyway! If you ever try cooking again, maybe a chopstick (or two) might help. It could help find the edges of the iron while you're pouring. A wooden chopstick won't melt or scratch up anything, so you can use it as a feeler without worrying much. While spraying, a second one in your lid-hand, pointed down and inwards, might even act as an additional barrier if your spraying hand drifts too close.
